During the 1990s, when convertibles were rare, I bought a little 2 seater convertible and got a lot of attention. I forgot about those days until recently when I bought my new E53 convertible. I now have people making positive comments, walking up and asking questions, or just random stares and head turns.
I don't know if it is the fact that it is a convertible or if it's the sporty AMG look, or a combination of both?
Is your MB getting a lot of attention, and if so, what kind of attention and what car are you driving?
I am in a college town, and I am driving a black E53.

It all depends on location, around here my S63 is as much attention getter as a Toyota Camry in Peoria.
Even my wife's Lusso would rarely earn a second glance.

Oh my! I am in SC, so we don’t see many of those around here.
Same where I'm from. SUVs are a dime a dozen. The local dealership said they've only seen 2 W166 ML63s drove into their service bay in the last 5 years which makes it a pretty rare sight. But on the road, I haven't gotten any stares, compliments or questions...either because they don't know what it is or it's just another SUV. I like the sleeper look so I'm fine with that.

Can't wait to get my 2020 E63S wagon...there are hardly ANY wagons in the US, period. I'm sure this will be the ultimate sleeper. I want to see the look on those Hellcat/GT500/ZL1 fanboys when I dust them off the line as they spin their rear tires trying to get traction...
My E53 convertible doesn't get a second look. My 2015 650IX convertible did get positive remarks. I've had the E53 since the beginning of the year, and when I had it wrapped and ceramic coated, I had it debadged, so it has no markings on the side or back. The only tip off that it's not a regular E (or C, as it's hard to tell the difference from outside), are the 4 exhaust tips coming out the back. If you have a chance to look underneath, you'll see that one on each side is a dummy tip.

Funny enough I STILL get lots of stares and positive comments on my 2007 335i convertible (white with red interior). It seems to just have a classic look that people like. What they don't know is that it is ECU flashed to 400hp...
I live in an area where it seems like they're just handing out benz and bmw cars... only peeps that recognize my 63 are enthusiasts ... then about 1/2 wanna race

That is a great looking car you have there. Imagine it with some minty HRE's Hell, mine is a 2012 and still gets attention everywhere I go!
Mostly I think it is the Selenite Grey Magno that draws the comments or looks. Many folks don't know it's any different than a standard E series - at least not until I start the car .

.......
The answer is it depends on the audience:
Not much attention here in CA as there are plenty of high end cars and appliances (aka Tesla) on the streets.
However, was getting a lot of attention in Europe: selenite grey with macchiato Beige/Black leather AMG Performance seats and CC brakes was turning heads.
When parked, people would walk around examining the car with respect and giving compliments. Was funny to see some turning away like if they did something wrong once I approached the car!

Same color I ordered...it's on a ship as we speak...
I live in Nor Cal and rarely get noticed. Took a trip to Montana earlier this summer and got lots of comments and questions. CA has a lot of cars but car enthusiasts aren't that common.

Most Californians don't give a damn what car they drive and what kind of performance, engineering put into it, heritage, etc it represents.
All they care about is what kind of IMAGE the car projects to others, most of the time that image having nothing to do with the actual person behind the wheel who in most cases does not even own it, renting it for a short or long term instead.
I got my first convertible in 1973, it was an MGC. Just being a young lad, it was a girls magnet. Having had several convertibles since, MB, Ferrari, etc. yes they attract attention, mainly because they are high end 2 seat cars. Men like em because they are desired,, a boy's dream, women, because they represent money, means financial security and an easy life. It even happened, in my SL55 that a very attractive women approached me at an intersection, standing on the sidewalk, me waiting for green light, offering to marry me. So, yes, at least the SL attracts attention, I can confirm that.
When you are young, sexual harassment is a crime, but when you get older, it's a benefit.
I love driving a sleeper. I ordered it de-badged with no carbon, night trim, etc. The only "AMG" is the tiny escutcheon on the grill. It's lots of fun surprising people on the highway.
The people who notice it are car people who catch the cues like the calipers, tires or exhaust. I parked at the post office the other day and when I got out someone said, "It doesn't say AMG but it sure sounds AMG."

Where in SC? I’m in the Upstate very close to the BMW plant and mine gets stares all the time since they are so few off them and so many oil leaking bimmers. And I’ve learned to start the car in sport plus and it sounds even louder which gets even more attention.
Thats a good looking car by the way!

Thanks. I am in the Charleston area. I spent some time in Spartanburg decades ago, so I imagine if you are anywhere around that area, your cars really stand out.
Just got back from a little 879 mi.road trip up Hwy 1 and at every gas stop peeps were asking about the car.
The best road trip car ever.. I forgot to mention, a nice couple drove by and did a U turn just to come back and talk about my wagon..

I have only gotten attention from other car “dudes.” Otherwise this car is a total sleeper. I love it. I also have an FF and I thought that car might be a sleeper of sorts. Wrong. People taking photos of you at the gas station, etc. You can’t go to Trader Joe’s without attracting tons of attention.
