Carbon Fiber Front Fender Trim Keeps Breaking

Hello,

I have the Carbon Package for my E63 and the carbon trim on the front fender keep breaking from the clips. This is the second time this has happened. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions for this?

No real solution yet. I am not a fan of this design element, and unfortunately MB decided to hard mount them to the body panel so that they cannot be easily shaved.

Their name is their only redeeming quality: Air Knives.

That is a known issue, once you remove them the first time. When you go back to install them they will never fit perfectly anymore. I am trying to figure with my dealership on a way around this issue.

Are you talking about reinstalling the same one after removal? Is this due to the deformation of the pins upon removal?

I did have a broken pin when my car arrived, and the air knife was replaced under warranty. I have not had a problem since then. My SA mentioned being careful with towels (when washing the car) or loose clothing, etc., snagging one of the ends of the knives.

I have a problem with the driver's side one. It did brake once, I put it back but it doesn't sit perfectly. I have replaced peace but wait till old one will get break again, and will install a new peace, but seem like it's not going to do this again anytime soon

Does anyone have the part number for that piece of trim for the left/drivers side?

Same as CALBenzo, I noticed one of mine was broken the first time I washed the car. It was replaced under warranty. No issues since and fit is fine.

These Nike air swoosh fins must have all of the taps in place, if one breaks, it will obviously reduce the hold onto the fenders. The factory replacement looks just like this and all of the tabs must be there:

As for the part number for the carbon fiber fins are as following:

I have a extra set for sale if anyone is interested.

If you Google the part numbers, you’ll get a lot of hits for Mercedes dealership part departments who have them listed for purchase online. Interestingly, some dealers sell them for a lot less than others, so it’s worth checking multiple dealerships for the cheapest price. I think they buy them wholesale from Germany and then have the freedom to charge whatever markup they want. Anyway, cheapest I found was about $295 per pc (even more interesting is that they’re not the same price for the left and right). Here are the part numbers:

213-880-47-01
213-880-48-01

The black ones that came on my car cracked within the fist couple weeks of ownership so I just took the opportunity to upgrade to carbon, even though the dealer was willing to replace the black ones under warranty.

so that parts number is for ‘18-‘20’ MY, but the part number seems to have changed for ‘21 MY. And all the websites say it doesn’t fit ‘21 MY when you check. Can you confirm that the part didn’t change in anyway for the ‘21 MY

I have a 2021 E63S as well. I can confirm my PPF shop didn’t have an issue installing. I believe it’s the same emblem from the previous years. Can send a pic when I get home if you like.

You can also call an MB parts department and give them the VIN for a vehicle that has the CF emblems and they can look up the part numbers that way too. Their search database is based on VIN and they can look up any part number on the car. Of course, some dealers are more helpful than others, so just call another parts department if the first one isn’t helpful.

And again, highly recommend Googling the part number to find the cheapest dealer.

Another thing I found, if you call the department and try to purchase over the phone, it may be a higher price. The guy in the parts department couldn’t really explain why, but he pointed me back to purchase online when I let him know it was cheaper through their website. I thought it was all kind of shady lol, but I received a genuine MB part a couple weeks later, so water under the bridge at this point and happy with the end result.

Clearly a poor design. The passenger side rear mounting pin of my non CF swoosh arrived broken, dealer will replace.

yea when I went to ask them about it s couple months after my purchase they wouldn’t repair it under warranty and wanted like $6-700 for just one side.

There's not really a solution here - this piece breaks 50% of the time you take it off.
