European Delivery Round 1

I took EU delivery on my 2020 Wagon and when they pulled the cover off in the center of excellence I noticed they forgot the night package, then inside, they forgot the massage seats, and the distronic cruise, and the exterior lighting package... aaaannnndddd finally the rear sunshades for the little ones. I was there for a week with my friends so I took the car - emailed the dealer, and had a blast.

Got back to Los Angeles, and the dealer had no idea how MBUSA missed the options - they showed me the order in which MBUSA had confirmed all of my options. Dealer canceled the order, gave my deposit back, and I ordered another one, which I'm going back to Stuttgart to get at the end of March - this time with my 9 year old son.

All in all - I'm happy that I get to experience the whole thing again with my son. But man, it's taking a lot of patience!

Here are some pics from EU Round 1!

Quite the silver lining! Bummer it happened but nothing better than my Euro delivery memories.

Side note, pretty surprising they screwed that much up. Time to get the QC in shape.

I admire your ability to roll with the punches. Glad it's working out for you and you can do this again with your son! Well done.

So - you took delivery of the car, drove it in Europe and aren’t taking delivery of said car in the US? They dealer allowed you to do that?

Wow, I had to cancel my first order because MBUSA couldn’t get the order correct. My dealer had to change the order three times before he finally cancelled it and redid the order. When I finally got it, it was correctly built.

Also, my plate was BB 45A.

Best of luck

I know! I was hoping they could just add it in LA but apparently it’s a whole new wire harness. The different grill, windshield, etc...

First order was placed in early April ‘19. Initial order had no options on it. Second order had options, but wrong colors. Final order was confirmed a month later. The car wasn’t ready for my requested delivery date of 10/2019, so I was given a loaner in Germany and my car was shipped to my dealer. I received it 3 weeks ago.

Looks like MBUSA needs more focus and attention to detail.

My ED delivery was different from the original order, but not to the extent to refuse the car. There were few minor differences. Thew only one serious enough to complain was the steering wheel... however dealer was willing to order the new one once car arrived.

if mine would have had the massage seats and cruise I would have kept it. Let’s hope they get it right the second time around!

make sure to check all the options on MBUSA invoice... my fault was focusing on dealers order and not really examining details in the actual MBUSA invoice...
had many ED orders in the past, all matching the original order, so being naive this time was my mistake.

this is great advice! I barley looked over my invoice from MBUSA on the first order - which came to me in September, even though I ordered the car in April of 2019. Pick up was scheduled for 11/5/19.. how far in advance did you receive your invoice from MBUSA?

The key to making sure nothing goes wrong is to watch the ordering process like a hawk. The MBUSA Order and Confirmation is generated right away when the dealer enters the order into the system. I received mine within three days of my initial order to the dealer. I then received a couple after that as they were having trouble getting all my options built into the Euro Delivery system based on my travel date. They ended up changing my initial travel date to one month later to get my proper build. I ordered every option (except the Magic Sky Roof for $5k) on a '19 S63 AMG for Euro Delivery in November 2018.

Since one is buying the Euro Delivery car directly from the manufacture with a commission to the dealership, it is extremely important to make sure ones configuration shows up on the MBUSA final invoice and confirmation of order as that is how MB will actually build the car (compare dealer configuration to MBUSA Invoice/Confirmation of Order). If one does this, the only way something can get built incorrectly is if the manufacturer makes a mistake which is a very slim chance. I worked very close with my dealership salesperson and Annedoris at MBUSA since she is the person in charge of Euro Delivery for MBUSA. Hopefully MBUSA and my dealer salesperson did not feel I was a pain in their backside but I know this can get screwed up so I "watched like a hawk". I even followed the delivery to the US so closely with followup that my car was delivered to me in the US 38 days after I dropped it off in Bremerhaven Germany at the ship. Just thought I would provide my 2 cents here for what it is worth.

I double and triple checked my order with my ED dealer. I was probably a bit of a pain in the A$$ as this was my first ED and my first Mercedes. I did make one change initially over what we sat down and picked out during the initial order process and that was to change wheels from silver to black. Pretty hard to miss something on my order as the car was pretty much loaded with almost every option, but there were some choices that we agonized over a bit like performance versus massage seats - we got the massage seats and are quite happy with them.

We ordered the various options before the prices were out in the DOG and Mercedes web site wasn't yet open for configuring the options. We kept checking back until the confirmation was in and we finally learned how much the car was going to cost, and then checked some more because the order confirmation sheet grouped up some of the options differently than our initial order form. Finally, once the order was locked in and no more changes were possible we relaxed a bit.

When we got to Germany and were in the delivery process we checked everything against our order confirmation. Nothing was missing except the wheel locks and the chrome door handle inserts (my wife's finger nails scratch the heck the area under door handles), but we were told those would be installed at the VPC in the states - which they were.

The one option that was in the car that we didn't expect was the wireless charging pad in the center console even though we had carbon fiber trim. This was because it wasn't an available option when we ordered the car. The wireless charging/NFC and CF center console trim were mutually exclusive options on early order 2018. My car's build date was just a bit after the mid year refresh where apparently the restriction was removed.

The only thing missing up front in mine is the 12 VDC power jack. In cars built just a few weeks or a month later the front 12 VDC jack was moved up to near the passenger's left knee.

Thanks for your help on this! I have Anne Doris’ email so I’ll reach out and make sure they have the correct options.

Def don’t want to have to order another one!

that s63 is amazing! Checked one out in the center if excellence when we were there.
