2018 E63 Wagon
Performance Seats

Been lurking around here for the last 6 months as I research my next vehicle which I expect to be an '18 E63 wagon since they appear to have finally dropped below the the 100 grand threshold.

My latest question is for those that have the Performance Seats:
- Would you get them again?
- Are they "Daily-Driver" comfortable?
- Are they suitable for a guy 225+ pounds?
- Are they wearing prematurely on the outside bolsters?

It seems that the units out there with them have been lingering longer on the lots than those without. Is that for good reason?

Thanks for any help.

- Would you get them again? - yes
- Are they "Daily-Driver" comfortable? - yes
- Are they suitable for a guy 225+ pounds? - yes
- Are they wearing prematurely on the outside bolsters? - yes, but not that bad.

I never had better seats than those buckets in my e63s. All other seats just feel weird after buckets in my opinion.

2nd. Only thing to consider is if you have a sensitive lower back. I have noticed that if I slouch in the seat over a decent drive (1 hour) my lower back can feel it. Sitting with good posture solves the issue though and I love my seats! And when you're driving more aggressively, the seats are A-MA-ZING

Comfort seats hold amazingly with active side bolsters, plus have massage and few other goodies.

Pneumatically adjustable lumbar, side and shoulder supports offer custom-tailored comfort. Active side bolsters can automatically increase lateral support in cornering maneuvers, or even in the event of a potential accident. Eight massage programs can soothe and rejuvenate your back and shoulders, including two spa-like "hot stone" massages, plus an "active workout" program to help strengthen your back and leg muscles.

The only way to know is to sit in the seats yourself. Everyone is built a little different and what one finds as comfortable another finds the opposite. If you're married have your SO sit in them as well. There's a active thread right now where someone is looking to swap out the performance seats because their wife can't stand them.

I've had four back surgeries and would not have bought my E63s wagon without the sport seats... My wife even likes them for daily and road trips.

If you're old, fat and look like a couch potato go for the couch seats...

We have a new wagon(4 months) and it has the AMG performance seats. We would not buy them again.

My 2c input from yesterday is based on my own experience: drove for 2k miles in performance seat, then made around 1.5k miles in comfort.

Finally, my ED order was comfort seats!

Here's a post I made in one of the numerous threads devoted to this topic (search is your friend):

i’ve now driven 1,700 miles in the new wagon, and literally just finished a 5-hour trip from LA to SF.

i was concerned about the livability of the performance seats, since i’m 6’2” and around 240 pounds. i can honestly say that i find them more comfortable than the “comfort” seats. and in the canyons they provide a lot more support. the only downside is that they don’t have the massage function, but that always felt more gimmicky than practical to me anyways. added bonus: my wife likes them better than the other ones too.
Since then, I've also driven from LA to Austin and back for the F1 race, and my verdict stands. I am just shy of 10,000 miles now and I still love them. So to answer your original questions:

- Would you get them again? Yes
- Are they "Daily-Driver" comfortable? Yes
- Are they suitable for a guy 225+ pounds? Yes
- Are they wearing prematurely on the outside bolsters? No

I feel like they will not be that comfortable if you have to wear a suit often. I always feel like they mess up my dry drycleaned clothing and will leave more crumple lines going in and out of them. I always have adjust my clothing a lot more when I get into most cars with these aggressive performance styled seating.
Any truth to this?? (never daily'ed performance seats)

A suit is not the most comfortable thing in the world and with any cars and seats I always had discomfort.

For me, standard seats are just weird and I can't find a comfy position on them and I talk about different models of amg (w205, w218/19, w213). Only one concern I can really remember with Performance seats that if the car parked up or down to hill that can be sometimes not that easy to get out of the car. Nothing else.

I'm 6'2 and ~240lbs, daily driven for more than 25k miles at this moment. Did many road trips over 400 miles and no complaints.

I have the massage seats. I will typically hang up my suit jacket or toss it on the passenger's seat rather than wear the jacket while driving. Same for winter coats. But I'll typically leave on a windbreaker or light jacket.

I love them, happy i got them in my car. Great for street and track use. Only thing is for people who have never sat in a car with bucket seats it is really hard for them to get in and out of them. For those who are veterans at it, its the easiest and best seat in the world.

Love the performance seats. Wife less so. She has had a couple of back surgeries. But she is fine for everything but long trips. She tries to prevent a lot of back twisting so she sits on the bolster getting in. No wear but some more wrinkles on the leather.
The car definitely looks more special inside with the performance seats as well.

Agree.

My take: for anyone who can get in, be comfortable in, then get out of AMG GT's seats while roof is up, E's performance seats are plush by comparison.

Ditto... I love these seats and have driven 8hr from mid-coast Maine back to NYC area in one drive... no issues. Massage is nice, but if you need it that bad, hit the local shiatsu!

I'm sure they have some bolster covers you can buy to protect the bolsters. I know the Porsche guys have them made by a certain company. Maybe they can do the same for the performance seats. I'm in the same boat as you. Eyeing a 911 or E63 wagon for my next purchase. Wife loves the wagon & doesn't understand the obsession for the smaller 911. I don't think I can go wrong with either tho. Let us know what you decide OP.

Performance seats look great, but I did not want to have a 911-like seat height in a 5000lb car (or whatever it is). If I was going to give up my two-door, I definitely wanted to get some perks in return...such as an easy in and out. Also, the seats have harness holes but they are just for show...not to be used with a harness.

Or, thinking "out of the box", as Ronin suggested already is to keep the seats and change the wife....
