2,000 mi Rear Differential Oil Change no longer needed?

I just took my 2020 E63S wagon in to get the rear differential oil change service that is normally required. My service advisor told me that the oil change is no longer required as per MBNA, even though it says so in the owners manual.

I put a call into MBNA customer service to verify this, and am waiting for a call back. The service advisor told me I would be receiving something on this from MBNA. Since I left the dealership less than 1 hour ago, I haven’t received anything yet.

Has anyone else out there been told the same thing? I’d appreciate any feedback relating to this. Thanks!

Some folks may be mixing E53/63 and E63S). There is discussion on this topic (1875 miles oil change) from last year:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...er-needed.html

I asked AMG rep in Affalterbach and was told that oil change is required if it is shown on the windshield sticker. Pls see below example of US 2019 E63S / production May 2019.

Thanks for this info. My car does not have this sticker.

My 18 E63S4S had that lower sticker & my 20 E63S4S did not have that sticker. I just finally cracked the 1K mile mark myself, so I'm finally enjoying being able to step on the accelerator when I can now.

My 2019 had the sticker as well and the dealer did it without any discussion, for free as I have prepaid maintenance. I wonder if they really changed the diff in some way? Or the oil?

My '19 S has the sticker but the dealer was able to produce internal documents clearly showing that the service is no longer required. I chose to pay out of pocket to have it done and now I sleep better at night.

There has clearly been a change at some point in 2019 affecting all AMG models and the diff oil change is no longer required. Same thing for my 2019 C63S and there is a lot of confusion surrounding this issue. Seems the information hasn't made it everywhere, so you may talk to somebody who insists that it is still required and somebody else says otherwise. The owners manual is clearly in need of an update. The German owners manuals appear to have been updated and now state that an additional oil change may be necessary if there is a sticker on the windshield saying so. Basically what's been said above. My C63S was a February build and it no longer had the sticker. I did European Delivery and drove my first 6000+ miles in Europe over 8 weeks, so it was something I had to deal with while in Europe. I talked to AMG in Affalterbach directly and they looked up my VIN and confirmed that the diff oil change is no longer required. I ended up doing it anyway at a dealership in Frankfurt as a piece of mind. Turns out it really wasn't necessary, but it doesn't hurt, either. It seems MBUSA etc. are finally catching up with this information, too. I've actually heard that the electronic diff never really needed this and it was mainly for the mechanical LSD in the non-S variants. AMG is getting rid of the mechanical LSD and even the non-S are getting the e-diff. This could be why they finally dropped this requirement.

W213 AMG 2019 E63S Wagon
I have a 2019 E63S Wagon and since it had the sticker I did the service. Knowing what I have seen regarding these posts and the concern about the change, I would definitely do the service anyway... it was less than 180 U.S. Dollars. I think that would be good peace of mind and then I would never think of it again. I am also the type that changes or cleans my air filters more often than needed. Yeah probably a little wasted money but like the safe side!

Just spoke with the dealership I got my car from and they said it is no longer needed so they would not do it even if I tell them to. Weird. Did most of guys did it anyway from somewhere else?

My 2020 ended up not needing the service either. I spoke to someone at MBNA and they confirmed that since my car didn’t have the “sticker”, it wouldn’t need the rear differential oil service until 30k miles. I am at 15k, and so far, so great.

I have a 2019, and in the W213 guide it clearly says for E63 to get this done.... if you need a photo of this just let me know..
I brought it to the dealer at 2,100 miles and it was covered by the prepaid service. This was 2 weeks ago. Although, they originally had assumed that I would pay for it and that it "WASN"T included". I don't play games and immediately called into questions the Sales Manager not reviewing this at the point of sale of the prepaid service and telling me that "All Service outside of Wheels and Brake wear will be covered".

The 2021 user manual still says this service is needed. Seems to be conflicting information.

so, did you perform the 2000 miles rear differential oil change at all?

No, I never did. I will do so at 30,000 miles. No issues from the rear diff after 17,000 miles so far.

They just changed my rear diff fluid again at my third annual service. I only have 16,500 miles on the car. Apparently the third year service is a bigger one than the normal annual services. It's prepaid so I didn't pay close attention to what all was being done. But my service advisor said it was around $350.

I think you're right about the price. I went and fetched my receipt and looked at all the items addressed. Would have been more than $350, but probably (hopefully) not $1,645 (£1200). I think I was remembering the price he initially said when I dropped it off. Because I have the prepaid service it shows as N/C.

The items performed were:
Car wash,
Mess up my perfectly adjusted tire pressures and reset to 41/36 F/R versus 41/33.
Complete safety report
30K service (should be 30 k if in conformance to SI unit rules, K is the unit abbreviation for kelvin, not the prefix kilo, but whatever)
001154 3/30 Service
826913 W/Blades
001166 Dust Filter
001263 Trans svc
001150 Rear axle svc

I don't see spark plugs in the parts list or service actions. Maybe because I only have 16,500 miles - though you'd think that they'd then skip the rear diff to if it were miles instead of years.

They also performed a service update on the software for the SRS control unit, which he said was a recall, but I haven't received any recall paper work for that, so maybe he meant service campaign.

yeah mine had clicked over 30k miles so there’s the difference I reckon! Yeah no recall over here for SRS either 👍👍

2021 E63s
Can't get an answer from the dealerships

I have a 2021 E63s sedan and I don't have the second sticker, but the owner's manual says I need to change the differential fluid after 2,000 miles. I tried calling the two dealerships by my house multiple times, but neither service advisor has returned my call to tell me whether it is required or not. I'm going to drive to the dealership where I bought the car and ask the service manager. Hopefully I'll get an answer. It's frustrating that I need to drive in to get someone to respond, but it is what it is.

Funny, MB must be reading this forum. My service advisor just got back to me that he did the research and said that my vehicle does NOT need a differential fluid change at 2,000 miles. In fact, he said almost all the newer models (assume 2021) do not need this service. The manual needs to be updated. But, to their credit, I didn't have the windshield sticker so maybe that's a better indicator than the manual.
