Black grill and badges

I recall seeing this discussed but can’t find it
1. Looking to vinyl wrap the front grill on my new E63, not sure if to do it in gloss black or satin? Any pics out there?

2. What company should I order the black badging, or maybe I should debadge? Any pics there too?

3. I also plan to wrap that chrome strip on the trunk and maybe the rear spoiler too??

mine is the designo matt grey with the black 20” wheels.

Hey,
I have been lurking on this site forever, having owned a few AMG's now but have never got around to registering before. Your car and what you are wanting to do is pretty close to what I did so thought I would share. On my previous E63 I used wrap to black out the chrome, the finish was ok but I am quite fussy so on my current model I opted to paint, the finish with paint is perfect. I then opted for a carbon lip spoiler and diffuser, makes the rear look pretty aggressive in my opinion

Looks killer!!
1. Where did you source your badges?
2. Did you also replace the side badges?
3. Is your front grill painted or vinyl? Any resin you didn’t go with gloss black versus satin?

Thanks.
1. The badges are the factory ones, I just a body shop remove and paint them.
2. I left the side badges stock for a bit of contrast as I blacked out the wheels ( I am not a fan of the silver ring on the black rims, looks old school)
3. Front grill is painted as well. I went satin on the black trim/badges because the carbon parts are high gloss so thought it suited the matt paint better
4. Yep,all sliver/chrome on the back is painted black.

Hi guys,

My car is a lease so looking to also wrap a few pieces. I’ve already blacked out the badges with aftermarket ones and they’re perfect. Im not a fan of the other chrome pieces. I’m looking to do the center trunk piece, spoiler, door handles and front grill. Can anyone tell me how they will hold up with washing and possible rock chips? Also how about the door handles with constant touching and oil for your hands? How easy would it be to take off later on? Thanks in advance.

Can you recommend a company for the badges, there’s so many but I don’t trust all these cheap knockoffs that may looks like crap and not last. Painting the badges is an interesting option but sounds expensive.

The center chrome piece on the rear is easy to wrap and looks good, any decent wrap shop should be able to do it. The issues I had with wrap on my last E63 where with the front grill and door handles. The wrap guy said the front grill was super hard to wrap and get perfect so had a few imperfections. The door handles looked good initially but ended up with the wrap peeling off due to the constant use/movement. With wrap you can just peel off and go back to factory if you don't like or a lease, it causes zero damage to the paint work.

Painting the 4 wheels, door handles, badges, rear chrome strip and front grill was $1200 US , my dealer actually organised it for me through their body shop. Considering how much the car is to buy $1200 seemed reasonable to me and worth it if you want the finish to be right.

I got my black badges from this same seller on eBay. No issues so far. Been happy with them. Have my door handles wrapped, just the chrome part. Holding up well.

Looks great!! Is your rear spoiler the stock one, and is it wrapped?? If so can you take closer pics, I was thinking of wrapping the spoiler carbon fiber but was told it will look cheap so perhaps gloss black

Wrapped gloss black like the handles and trunk lid chrome. You can see the slightest of lines/joints on the wrap of the spoiler. You have to be within inches to see it tho. Tried to show it in the closeup below. Tough to make it out with the reflection.

Sorry, a little off topic: Has anybody applied some sort "protection" to the part of the painted door at the door handle? In my experience, it is difficult for people (especially women with nails) to prevent their nails from scratching this surface when opening the door, and it starts getting scuffed. This is especially important for matte painted doors. I don't think a ceramic coating is enough to prevent the scuffing. Any thoughts?

Had my grill, door handles and trim wrapped today. Looks much more aggressive. Love it. Thank you for all the help and suggestions! Left the spoiler white. I wanted it a little more subtle. I was torn on the door handles.

Looking great. Was the front grill tough to wrap?

It took the installer a little bit to do it. There’s a few seams. It’s a hard shape to wrap right. If you get right on top of it you can see the seams. But they’re tucked away. Being all black as soon as you step back it looks fine. Worth it to me. Mercedes should’ve done this front the factory IMO.

Love it, can’t wait to get the back grill!! Not sure if I’ll donor in gloss black to match the other gloss black parts up front or satin finish that has a lower sheen. The gloss may show too much dirt so maybe satin??

I ordered the optional chrome door handle inserts. My wife's car door handles are thrashed from her nails. So far the E63 has been doing OK with these inserts.

Yeah it’s all preference. I looked at tons of pics for ideas. These forums are so helpful. In the end I thought the satin made the whole grill look too plasticty It didn’t seem to match the gloss on the lower front for me. Everyone has their own preferences. Good luck!

Yeah, thought about that, but don't like the look of chrome there against the matte paint. Wondering if Expel makes a custom piece of their "Stealth" (matte) film that fits there. Doubt they would sell me just those small pieces though.

The door handles are chrome so they blend right in. I considered wrapping them in black like the night package but never got around to it.
