OBD Dashcam?
Hey guys,
I recently got a new E53 coupe and I'm loving it so far--I have been trying to hardwire my dashcam into the OBD port like on my previous non Mercedes vehicle but for some reason the camera won't get any power whether the engine is on or off? It plugs in fine to the OBD port but nothing happens.. I've verified the camera works by plugging it into the car's cigarette port. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

@E634Me @Michael Khan How would I go about doing that? Is there a way to plug into the rear view mirror area? It's a front windshield dash cam, the only reason I was using the OBD was because that worked great on my last car and it has a motion detector when the car is turned off

I've been looking for some videos or web instructions for the 2017 and newer E class to see how to open up the rearview / camera console and get to the power but haven't seen anything yet that explains it well enough to give me the confidence to go prying around there.
On a related note, how do folks power a rear facing camera? How do you mount it if you have the power sun shade?

That cover comes up but you need a special tool for it. They have these mini stubs that clip into place and if you break one its game over. I am gonna be getting a dash came installed next week so I will try to get some pictures of the install to be posted here.

Seems like there should be some way to keep our own built-in front and rear cameras running in the background, and intercept/write the feed onto a usb/SD card.

If somebody could figure out a way to code this change (I imagine it's a lot of coding, if possible at all), then I gotta believe this would sell like hotcakes...Imagine a built-in front and rear dashcam without having to add anything to the car except a memory device...!
