Pano roof delete for a standard sunroof? First time seeing it!

Came across a 2018 E63 wagon with a sunroof instead of a pano roof. I had no idea that was even possible, or what the potential benefit (I guess weight reduction?) would be, but looks like it exists. Anyone see one of those before? Check out this video at the 5:30 mark

It’s at the 5:56 mark of the video. From the inside, it almost looks like the pano roof continues over the back seat, but the exterior shot confirmed that it’s only a sunroof.

I’ve never seen this and wasn’t aware it was an option on any E63 wagon.

I’ve never liked sunroofs; in almost 40 years of driving, I don’t think I’ve ever opened one for any reason other than a function check. If I could spec my car with a solid roof, I’d do it in a heartbeat. A pano roof is the last thing I’d ever want.

I can’t be the only one, can I? 😃

+1. At 6' 3" tall, and with a long torso, I'd much rather have a solid roof and the additional headroom.

Yes true about headroom...but that is why it is so puzzling. They just changed to a sunroof not a solid roof, so still the same headroom issue in the front right? Anyway, very unique!

You are not, can't stand them in any form. Solid roof or full vert. Sunroofs are the all season tire equivalent of roof openings, worst of all worlds.

Lol you guys are crazy, the pano is nice in warm weather with it's larger opening, and night driving with the full sky visible from inside. Maybe it's just me.

I wonder how much weight reduction and would that make the car bit more nimble and quicker?

In the factory tour they said the pano roof actually makes the car stiffer than a regular roof which may improve handling more than the slight weight penalty.

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
Tried to order my E63 without a sunroof a year ago and learned it wasn’t possible.

Would’ve liked to have a CF option like the AMG GT R but then that might be a bit too “M” like.

This is actually my car and I never seen one without the pano. The previous owner must have had some pull with MB to be able to order the car this way.

I hate opening up the sunroof as well. Never use it. If i open it 1-3x over the entire time i have a car to remind me why i hate them and close it back up.

For me, it's not just the sunroof, itself - I also leave the screen closed 100% of the time.

Resurecting an old thread . But found a sedan with performance seats & a sunroof (18" E63 ) I may take a look at . Guessing this has to be pretty rare , maybe some kind of special order . Interesting above , I would assume extra rigidity as well. Didn't know sunroof was an option, but it is comes up as code 414

I ordered my 2021 sedan with the sunroof. We have two GL450, one with sunroof and one with pano. The pano roof creaks and pops going in and out of our sloped driveway or across speed bumps. I keep waiting for the glass to explode and it drives me nuts. We do use them as we live in a place that is cool in the Summer and enjoy the natural airflow opposed to a/c. The opening on the sunroof is sufficient to get plenty of air and open up a view for night driving. I would agree that it would make sense to offer the option of having neither.

I like my sunroof, use it daily unless it’s raining. Wife has pano roof and she loves hers for more sunlight. Personal preference and not sure why they wouldn’t offer no sunroof at all.

This is just the plain sunroof option it seems. My sedan has the indent for rear passengers too. Just no glass.

It wouldn't be my choice, if I didn't like sunroofs, to go through all of that to end up with a sunroof. Having said that, it wouldn't crack the top 10 of dumb crap I have spent money on that made perfect sense to me.
