Spare ECU for tune?

Have any of u purchased a 2nd ecu for a tune ( for warranty purposes)? I am told the dealer can tell how many times u flashed the ecu but if u r able to swap in an ecu that has never been tuned......what r ur thoughts?

This idea has been bounced around I believe we simply landed on "you're screwed regardless". If you swap back your factory ECU it will be obvious it was not in use due to the data that was logged (mileage, load etc). Essentially you can't beat a warranty investigation if they really want to start digging. I do know that I was planning on doing the same thing you're talking about. @superswiss is pretty damn knowledgeable about this stuff.

That is not true. If the dealer or MBusa suspects your car is tuned, they can read your ECU parameters with or without α second ECU and know it has been altered such as your boost.

Here α tread on the W212 E63 that was discussed in length:

You mean TCU parameters? Otherwise the thread you've posted is saying the same thing I did.

I was actual answering to the OP, but yeah, it’s basically the same answer as yours.

Peter. Aren’t you one of the first W212 E63 guys would bought and cloned α second ECU to your E63? Are you saying it doesn’t work or not worth doing?

hi

yes, I have 3 ecu's and I know it works for the w212, but I know that all data can be retrieved if any big warranty claim. The purpose of my ecus now is to plug and play between stock (for diagnostics) and then ams 93 octane tune and Eurocharged e40 E85 tune.

i always knew that if there was a big issue with the engine I would be stuck with a potentially huge $20-40,000 bill to get the car running again. After accepting that, I moved forward with the tune. Truly you need to be able to afford a $170,000 car if you're tuning a new w213 and you may be on the hook for catastrophic repairs associated with the tune.

Get a tune from a reputable shop, find a shop that does not take pride in making the max power and in the process extracts every bit of juice out of the motor, drive the car sensibly and maintain it accordingly and you be fine. If you do break things in the process, then be ready for the repairs too.

great advice!

if you abuse a stock tuned car it'll crap out on you faster than a tuned car that you take care of and don't abuse
