Question about battery charge
Hey guys, I just finished trickle charging my battery to 100%, then I wen for a long 3-4 hour drive in in the mountains. When I got back, I plugged the charger back to see the change again, and it was back down at 76%. Is that normal? I would have thought that driving the car for that long would have kept the battery fully charged, and if that is confirmed I suspect my battery might be going bad for no longer holding charge. Any input is greatly appreciated.
The reason I trickle charged my battery is because the car sat in the garage for over a week without being moved and I got a warning on the app that my battery was critically low. Took 2 full days to recharge from 45% back to 100%.

I would say that both lack of full charge following a long drive and critically low after only a week without driving are signs your battery has seen better days. Any time I drive for more than an hour, my battery will be fully charged. I store my car over the winter, and it is typically two months before I get a low (not even critical) battery warning from the app.

I would take it to dealer to check out battery and alternator circle.

My battery needed to be replaced after a while. The auto start stop feature stopped working when I first got in the car after it had been sitting a bit, but then would start working after a longer drive. So I put the car on a trickle charger to make sure it was fully charged and then the start/stop feature worked for a few days but then stopped working again.
Most of my driving is to work and back which is only 4 miles so the battery doesn't get a good top off regularly.
After giving the battery a check out the dealer replaced it. Since then it has been working OK except for when the car has been sitting a long while - which is expected.

In general, this is actually not unusual. The battery is not kept fully charged in order to have capacity left for the mild energy recuperation. When you are cruising, the alternator voltage is increased to recoup some of the energy. You can see when that's happening in the instrument cluster if you bring up the fuel consumption screen I think it is. Whenever the current mpg goes "negative" into the green charge part of the bar graph that's when energy is being recouped. This energy is then used to power the electric power steering, oil pumps etc. to save fuel. The alternator gets decoupled periodically if there is enough energy in the battery and the battery charge is used to power certain electric components.
Also, when the car is parked, the telematics and internet connection stays active to report the status of the car to Mercedes me and so that you can remote lock/start the car from your phone. This requires a permanent Internet connection. There's a standby mode you can activate in the COMAND system to turn the online services off if you plan to leave the car parked for an extended time. This will make sure it doesn't drain your battery. I use this when I'm going on vacation.
If you primarily drive short distances, then the Mercedes me app will eventually show "partially charged" for the battery. At that point it takes quite a long drive to fully charge the battery. I've been getting this with the reduced driving I've been doing during the pandemic and I had periodically put it on a trickle charger if the car sat for a couple of weeks. I've also gotten critical battery alerts while the car was in for service and they were working on it draining the battery. They tested the battery in January as part of Service B and it checked out fine. Now that I'm driving more again, the battery shows fully charged most of the time.

battery on my 2018 was changed two times under warranty. First sign to me auto start/stop is not working. i don't drive much and that's a reason. Plus lots of electronics and electrical gizmoz drain the battery fast.

I also haven't been driving much in the last 13 months. I recently had errors for active braking and blind spot assist pop up. Not sure if it's battery related, but will prob need to make a trip to the dealer.

I’ve been having a similar problem, The dealer fitted a new Mercedes’ battery today so fingers crossed that will solve it.

I have a 2010 E550 that I don’t drive much anymore as I have a S550 as my daily driver now, but when it was the one I regularly parked it at airport for three weeks, a few times even for four weeks and never had problems starting it up. Now it sits in my car port and I try to remember to go drive it every three weeks just because I want it to work when I may occasionally need it.
Your car has a parasitic drain going on. You should not need to do any tricks when parking the car. After three weeks it should start without any problems at all, even after four weeks.
How old are your batteries? It could be a short inside one if the batteries too. To test you could disconnect the battery when parking it and then if it does not start when returning from the trip you know it is the battery itself, not the car.

That fixed it for me when my first battery went. But I had to remember to drive it every so often or put the battery tender on it. Otherwise I'd notice that the auto start stop feature wouldn't work until I drove the car for 10 or 15 minutes - a sign that the battery charge was getting low.
This thing has quite a bit of parasitic drain keeping the various computers tickled and chatting with the mother ship.

We are driving supercomputers now and weak batteries can cause all kinds of strange issues.

It’s not a problem for me as I drive it up and down the motorway every day. Works perfect every time. Thanks for your replies. Appreciated.
