E-Class Production Stopped for First Two Weeks of May

https://carbuzz.com/news/mercedes-sa...or-all-new-eqs

Carbuzz is reporting that Mercedes has paused production of the E-Class sedan and wagon in Sindelfingen as it redirects critical chips to the S-Class and EQS. Production is scheduled to be restarted May 14th. Anybody's builds affected? My build slot is scheduled for end of May, but the order hasn't locked yet; I'm guessing this is why.

I thought they are making a ton of money on my AMG wagon . I tried to research a while back on their production line for the e class amg's (wagons/sedans) to see if they are indeed in the same flow lines as standard e classes but could not verify for sure. Wondering if someone here knows for sure if they are as I would think it would be hard to control takt time between the two different model classes. My amg was suppose to start last week of March than moved up to first week of April than mid month of April but still no word from dealership as well as no records for shipping info with Vin and PO I was given.

I feel for those of you waiting on a car to be built. The process is very painful, especially if you are impatient as I am. My E63s took five and a half months from order to delivery and now I'm beginning to feel like I was lucky. My dealer wasn't good at communicating any information and that is what drew me to this site for guidance. Good luck, I hope things speed up soon.

I would imagine that E-class excludes the AMG line of E63S, etc. That is a much more profitable car than the standard E-class. I will get an update from my dealer tomorrow. I have an order with an expected production of 3D of May. Let's hope not.

Did you hear back from your dealer? Is your order locked?

Yes, I will do the same. Funny thing is I have one supposably being built last month and another to be built at end of this month. They are almost identical except last one will have active seats and Dinamica wheel, could not add that to first build as both where out of stock. I'll keep my figures crossed that at least one will get here before summer and have everything I ordered

One step closer…

I placed the order for my wagon mid January. Today I heard from my dealer that we got an allocation for a build at the end of September. These cars are hard to get!! But knowing that it’s spec’ed the way I want gives some comfort. I was tempted to look for ones online, but none of them are exactly what I want. Well, I better start looking for winter tires!

Yes, all E Class models are built on the same line. They have lines for each major platform. E, S Class etc. and all variants are built on the same line. The S Class line builds the regular S Class, Maybachs and AMGs for example. However, they are moving to lines that can produce all classes. I was at the plant in Sindelfingen in May 2019 and the new combined line was under construction at that time. Don't remember when it was supposed to open. Having production lines that can build every model they sell allows them to exactly do this kind of thing w/o completely shutting down an entire production line. Instead they just shift what cars they are building.

Glad to hear you got an allocation. Did you come to an agreed upon price based on your order sheet? I'm told I can order one but prices not yet released so...

Haven’t discussed the pricing as they are not available yet, as you mentioned. Interesting to see the new colors which are nautical blue and starling blue magno. I’ll stick with the cirrus, though. Night package and de-badged should give a nice sleeper look.

So my dealer told me everything still looks okay on his end and I’m still looking at 3D of May. If anything changes I’ll post.

I also have a wagon scheduled to be built the 3D of May. Polar white. My guy said order should be fine. They have heard nothing to the contrary. My guy also emphasized that these cars sell for sticker and up. Discount isn’t a word used much there. That’s ok. You soon forget what you paid, but you always remember what you bought. Market adjustments seem to be more common now, given the state of the market. If the wagon is as good as advertised, I won’t care! I’ve had two C63S and still have my 2016. Just hope the E63 wagon gives the same pleasure! But we have agreed on price, sticker.

I stopped by my dealer this morning to check on my order.....have an E 53 sedan.....ordered first week of February. My build is the 3rd decade of May as well. He said everything is on track that he can see as well, no issues with options (my build has the multi contour seats). Only thing that gave him pause was that it was still yellow in Netstar....he said they’re usually red at this point, but other than that, no red flags. We’ll see.

They make a ton more regular E Class than AMG

2018 E63S Wagon
History repeating. I had a 3rd week of January E63 Wagon build in 2018, didn't get built until the second week of April due to parts shortage. Just now it's chips instead of LCD screens.

And the delays are not necessarily over even if the car has been produced. I just read Tesla has over 10,000 cars on containment hold at their Fremont factory. These are cars that were produced, but are still missing a part. Once available they'll get released to service centers where the missing part gets installed. This happens to other brands as well. It's not uncommon for cars to sit at the ports waiting for a part that then has to be installed at the VPC first.

I was browsing autotrader tonight and see they have only 34 E63s sedans listed. Some of those don't have pictures as the dealer hasn't received the vehicle yet. The numbers have been steadily dropping and replacements don't seem to be getting delivered. Those of us that have gotten ours delivered were lucky I guess, even given the lengthy order process. The thought of extended waits and receiving a vehicle without the options ordered really sucks. Does anyone know when they will cut off orders for MY 2021?

I got an allocation two weeks ago for a July build of a 2022, pricing still isn't out yet but it looks like 2021's are done

Lets hope it's not 2022 when we get the cars I'll be paying a few grande more in property taxes in my state for the '22 verses a '21 but I think still worth it

I suppose that is why no more new ones are showing up online. The last time I looked they hadn't listed engine information for MY 2022. Has that been updated?

2024 AMG EQE SUV , 2021 E63S Wagon - gone, 2018 E63S Sedan - gone
I placed my 2021 wagon order the first day that the order window opened in July. By the time my salesperson could push the submit button, all of the first 3 decades of production were already snatched up. Some of these were from dealers as placeholders, but some, like mine, were for preordered units. My build date was originally the second decade in November, but then got pushed back a month to December. The car was finally at my dealer the last day of January, so a full 6 months had elapsed. I suspect the customized ordering process will stretch out even further for 2022 orders. With MB pushing more towards EV cars, the chips will become harder to allocate to gasoline vehicles. I'm very happy that my car was built with all of the features that I specified. Some other orders later were not so lucky.

21 E63s wagon
I was told that I had an allocation for a MY21 wagon that was supposed to lock this month. That was a few weeks ago. Since then, it's been crickets from the dealer. Wondering if at this point it's just better to hold out however long it takes and get a MY22 instead of getting a MY21 this late in the year. The other option is to go back to my original plan and see if I can get a MY22 RS6 (now with dynamic ride control instead of the more floaty air suspension, which was my issue with the MY21) since it looks like I'll get that sooner than MY21/MY22 E63. Fortunately for me, I'm still holding the first MY22 slot at my Audi dealership. Looking back at this whole 'journey,' I've been trying to get one of these wagons (RS6 or E63) since June 2020 and now almost a year later I'm still nowhere close to it. Probably should've just gotten a Cayenne Turbo and called it a day.
