Comfortable All-Season 19”

In my continuing effort to take a bit of the edge off of the E63, I have now ordered a set of OEM 19” wheels directly from Germany (it seems they are on back order for US dealers).

I will keep the 20” with the Michelin PS4s for track day.

I’m looking for advice on which tires to get. Main goal this time around is comfort, so I am think all-season. The proper size is 265/40-19 for the fronts and 295/35-19 for the rears. In reading through all the winter tire threads here, the following should also work: 255/40/19 front, 285/35/19 rear. This size seems to be the only size where there is an all-season tire (at least on Tirerack).

Currently I’m leaning toward the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. We have these on our Q8 and they are remarkably smooth and quiet even at 22”. Although this probably has more to do with the car itself. The other option is the Yokohama Advan Sport, which seem to have good reviews.

To those that will suggest just getting a 2021 or 2022, that is the option of last resort as I prefer the look of the prefacelift. Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

You’ll be within 1% rolling diameter of the 20” stock wheels and less than 1% difference front to back. I don’t see the problem. Going from fresh to bald tires results in a pretty similar difference.

The is an intriguing idea. I honestly like the look of the 19” 5-spoke rims on the E450 and a quieter tire would be nice. I have a 2021 and its fairly tame in comfort mode, but the Michelins are a bit noisy on rough pavement.

Did you get the rims? Did they fit? What tire did you settle on?

Also, just FYI, Michelin and other companies do have all seasons available in 265/40 and 295/35. And winters (Alpin PA4) for that matter. See Discount Tire. Local dealers may have some too. They aren’t cheap and the price difference might not be worth the extra 1/4” in sidewall, but you can get them.

I did get the rims. I settled on the OEM 19” rims that are made for the E63S that are an option on Europe, and that many people here and in Canada use as their winter tire setup. The problem that I have now is that the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires that I was planning on putting on are on back order.

I purchased the wheels for Germany from https://www.original-räder.de/en
Really good service, much better price than the dealership (I believe it was around $2900 including shipping). Although the wheels are not new, you would never know it. The only annoyance was that they were each shipped separately and each arrived at different days and I had to be home to write $16 customs check to UPS each time.

I planned to get the OEM 19" winter package but my dealer mentioned they are having problems with the 19's and ceramic brakes? If that is the case I will most likely just go with the 20" winters on my stock wheels. Anyone else have ceramics and more information?

They fit. Someone here had their ceramic car delivered with them on, but this was easier to find: https://www.autoblog.com/2020/12/09/...mparison-test/

It’s not the tires. It seems that they forgot the acoustic insulation somewhere in this model, rather odd for MB, especially at this model tier. It’s not enough to really bother me, but I do wish it was a bit less. I ordered the acoustic comfort package on my new one, but others here have said it doesn't help much. 🤷🏻‍♂️
