would u still buy a Mercedes if they no longer make a v8?

Yes, because the engineering of everything else in the cars is off the charts impressive. A Mercedes with an I6 is still an amazing machine.

Please let me know when an electric powered race car can do the 1/4 mile in the 3 second range. ICE is still the winner for all out performance by a long shot. You show me any electric vehicle and I can show you an ICE equipped vehicle that is faster. We are still a long ways away from full adaptation of electric vehicles. Hopefully there will be breakthroughs in charging or batteries because an electric vehicle will not work for me and many others that live in the US or those that drive more than 200 miles in a day.
The simplicity and longevity is very appealing but we have yet to see long term reliability or long term ownership costs. I think a more efficient power generation system will be the future and not plug and charge.

For me the EV doesn't fit my use case. Day after day of 500-1000 miles in all terrains and all climates, all year round, with a vehicle full of luggage and bikes on the roof. We are road trippers.
No EV can do that. My W166 does it very nicely.

I bought my first Mercedes 21 GLC 63 over the X3MC specifically for the biturbo v8 engine in this smaller sized suv category. Without any biturbo v8 Amg engines I will go back to Bmw M and Audi RS models.

Many here would remember the OPEC oil crunch of the early 1970’s. Cars went to 4, 6 cylinders. Only to rush back to high HP V8 30 years later. Well, I know I won’t be alive in 30 years. So I’m hanging on to the V8’s I have until I die.

I received my 2021 E63s wagon in late June and from what's happening feel I got real lucky. I am retired and since this wagon is actually our second vehicle it doesn't get driven much. Matter of speaking, both vehicles really don't get driven much any more. Because of that, it should take me to the day I'm a hazard to other drivers and to old to drive. I have no plan to ever get an EV or hybrid because I'm to much old school and love the sound of a big V8.

No. I plan to keep my E63s for as long as I'm driving. It isn't a daily driver so should last a long time. The all electric and hybrids don't interest me.

No, the reason why I left Audi (after > 20 years!) was they stopped making coupes/convertibles with V8 (only the R8 with V10 is great, but not really a practical daily car). The S4, S5 and RS5 with V8 where great cars, since 5-6 years they downgraded them with V6 engines. AMG will do the same I am afraid, since the S coupe/convertible will not be there anymore, only the C coupe/cabrio (with 4 zylinder...). Leaves the new SL (in fact a modern AMG GT Roadster) that will still have the V8. Imagine that 5-6 years ago you could choose between 6(!) different convertibles with V8 at Mercedes: SLK, SL, AMG GT, C, E and S class. And as of next year only the AMG GT (Coupe) / SL (cabrio).

One off tuner specials do not apply.

Formula E highlights the issues with electric performance cars. They look impressive on paper, but the performance is not sustainable. Pretty much all major players are exiting Formula E, because they don't see the point anymore. Most of them have said there's nothing to learn from it. The races are very short. They used to use two cars, at least now they can complete a race with a single car, but it's just super boring. Part of why I've bought performance cars in the past is because of the motorsport pedigree behind the brands. That pretty much doesn't exist with electric cars. Tried and failed essentially. Nobody really enjoys watching toasters on wheels doing a few laps and then running out of charge.

go fast grocery getter wagon
Yeah. I was watching a tiny portion of this race on tv one weekend and I thought it’s just bunch of ‘golf carts’ moving around and hardly anyone can pass. Boring 😩

Yes in the US, in 2000 you could get sedans, but not wagons, but it was not that hard. I ordered through MB of Portland (because a. they were/are the oldest dealer in the US from back when MB AG partnered with Studabaker to distribute MBs and had a salesman that was familiar with the process, AND, b. MB Truck HQ in NA at that time was also in Portland OR so MB had helpful German expats running around). My wagon came in through a west coast port and Ovan Int'l (Chicago) managed the importation paperwork. And upon released I had my car shipped to my home in Chicago. I would love to buy another NA V8 AMG wagon!
Sorry for the long story, but details are important.
Ovan Int'l has helped me a few times to import stuff. They are extreme prompt and absolute pros that know all the EPA and port people and if need be modifiers. If you ever decide to bring a French car over , see if they can help you, well worth it.

AMG started going downhill when they started introducing the 35,43,45,53's and slapping AMG badges to incentivize people to buy them bc of the badging. While it's a good business move, it dragged the brand downhill. I have an E63S that I absolutely love, and had an order in for a 2022 G-Wagon that I put in March of 2020 which appears cancelled at this point. I think at this point, this is my last car from this brand. They all look the same and everything is an AMG nowadays. I may get a pre-owned newer G-wagon but I am heavily looking at the Lusso as a new daily.
