"I Think There Will Be a Future" for the V-8, Says Mercedes-AMG Boss
by the sound of this article, I'm thinking they are going to dump the cross plane crank and make all V8's w/ a flat plane crank and hybrids.

AMG E63 Hammer Wagon. Alfa, Rover, Ferrari, Porsche.
Makes sense to me, I didn't have any expectation that the V8's death was imminent. Technology will help to extend its life by lowering emissions, as we're already seeing with the recently announced hybrid V8 drivetrain. The V8 is too important to MB's, and particularly AMG's brand. I mean, there's a thread here titled something like "If AMG stops making V8's will you still buy one?" They're very aware of this!

^^^No doubt! Always room for improvements. Plus a few random thoughts off the top of my head:
-Hybrid drivetrain
-All-wheel steering
-Smoother transmission
-More feel in steering rack
-Simpler user-interface
-Console mounted gear lever
-Less cheap plastic used for interior
-Front and rear integrated dashcam
-Better seats
-No fake centerlock BS on forged wheel option
If I had my car here right now I could double the list but with less important details.

2018 E63S AMG
Seems like with a hybrid to help out, they could tune the ICE for some pretty stout performance, sacrificing emissions under some conditions, and still have lower overall tail pipe emissions at idle and per driving mile.
Maybe not so much per 1/4 mile though ;-)

Not all dealers all across the US lie or add Additional Dealer Markup. Telling customers no V8s for 2022 is true. Telling customers no more V8s ever is a lie.

So, if they weren't going to make anymore V8s or were unsure if they could get enough of a part to resume production in 2023, would they just come out and say that? Very unlikely, so the statement from AMG is, in a practical sense, worthless. The use of the work "think" gives him an out.
I also don't think we've seen their last V8, but I also think they have no idea how the next year or two will go as far as suppliers, chips, etc. So they're putting on a happy face.

You're all forgetting that the V8 is on sale as usual in the UK as well as those cretins in the EU. It's nothing to do with QA, all to do with Biden and ridiculous EPA regs.
I've got deposits on the SL63 e perf and Final Edition C63S accepted recently, the V8 lives on

There's no emissions reason they can sell 2021 E63s and not 2022 E63s, besides that some ECUs are in short supply.
