Question New front brake pads - creaking when pedal is released from complete stop

Hi all.

I have a 2019 E63s, and recently had my Service A at 12k miles (1 year of ownership) about a month ago at the MB dealer (with OEM parts). I had to get my front brake pads replaced, and had them do it. For the past couple of weeks I have noticed an obnoxious creaking/squeaking noise whenever I release the brake pedal after a complete stop (does not occur while releasing brakes during motion). I used to get this same noise/sensation right after a car wash (while my brakes were wet), but it would go away after just a few stops as they dried.

When I started noticing this, I decided to give it some time as I thought maybe the new brake pads were breaking in, or maybe its because the front pads are thicker (brand new), and the rear pads have some wear - creating a discrepancy when the brakes are being released, but this issue has not gotten any better.

Has anyone had this issue, or know what it may be? Thanks!

New pads and old front rotors ? Probably not ideal fitting. Do some bedding on the brakes and see if they make any differences.

i.e. Find an empty stretch of road get up to 60-70mph and full force brake to a stop a couple times in a row.

Wow, brakes already? I know it can be driver situation dependent but I thought people were getting 20 to 40k on pads? I have 16k on mine and that is after a year in Germany where we can drive unlimited...I think I have more than 50 percent still. So what are people getting?

Depending on driving habits and how lead footed you are in the various driving modes it will vary widely.

Some folks are burning through the rear pads before fronts because of the TC and Stability control engaging the rear brakes to limit wheel spin. If you see the yellow icon flashing on when you mash down on the throttle the TC is engaging the rear brake. It does it pretty aggressively in comfort mode and less so as you ascend through the modes to Race.

I have a couple of favorite turns and regularly flip the settings to my individual mode which is basically Race, but up one toggle instead of down three. This allows me to get more aggressive before the nannies kick in.

Was surprised to find that my Jeep Wrangler blew through it's rear brakes in a very short time. In the first several years of ownership I drove it off road quite a bit and in 2WD in desert washes when I could to have fun fishtailing around and doing donuts with the kids. The TC light would wink and the darn thing would fight hard to limit you doing donuts but we pulled them off. Little did I know that the rear brakes were on practically all the time

So, if you are a canyon carver or doing other spirited driving and see the TC light winking on, beware.

My car is going in after the T-day break for it's annual service and we'll see how I'm doing on the CCB rotors and pads. I don't suspect any surprises as the car hasn't been driven much this year or last due to CV-19 and working from home and all that. Also, they dropped the speed limit on Palomar Mt. to 35 MPH bottom to top in order to try to control the weekend warriors so that's limited some of the fun.

I always thought MB recommend replacing pads and rotors as a new set with a brake fluid flush as well.

Typically the stealer will always replace rotors with pads. This is overkill thought. No reason to change the rotors as long as they're above the min thickness and don't have uneven wear.

Brake fluid flushes are to be done every 2 years.
