Crazy mark up on new E53 in USA

Is this the new normal? I wonder if anyone got new E53 recently and with what price. I heard that this kind of markup is happening all over the California.
Should I just get E53 from dealership in other states? If so, how much is it going to ship it to my home?
Or I should just get a used E53 since the price probably won't go down very soon.

The market is just crazy right now. Canada here, dealers selling with no discounts, just MSRP, and a few tacked on extras. No ADMs in Canada as MB Canada punishes dealers with fewer allocations if they get caught, so they tack on paint protection addons with high markups for example to get around it. I’m lucky to have a good relationship with my dealer so I got away with a small discount on my car.

Used E53s are another story, they’re selling for 10-20k over new. I sold my 3 year old E53 coupe privately for 15% less than I paid new.

Not true. This dealer has been tagging on $35-$40k in market adjustment premium on top since Fall 2021. Guess what ... if this is a wagon, someone (with tremendously deep pocket) would have paid this price, but for a sedan, not so at all.

Maybe they haven’t been reported or busted yet. Out in the west here, there’s only GT63s left, and listed at MSRP. The last E63 that I saw listed was MSRP and quickly sold in October.

This dealer had a 21 new wagon for sale too back in the Fall 2021 and they did the exact same thing and it was sold (likely within 2 months time).

Was it black with CCBs? Reason I ask is because one of the dealers here sold a black wagon with CCBs out to Ontario around the same timeframe, and was pissed off it ended up at a dealer with a huge markup. Sold as new, but technically used.

Would be funny if that was the car.

Oh the games in Canada are happening. I was lucky to get my new E63 for MSRP in the fall when i had located around 6 that were coming in. I received the car in early Dec from Mercedes Newmarket but have since noticed the Graphite car from Peterborough for sale at World Fine Cars for $179,900 with virtually no mileage and another car that was at Edmonton West and appeared at Platinum Cars for $189,799. I think the work around for the Canadian dealers to cash in on this demand is to sell to the aftermarket dealers with a few kilometers and split the profit over MSRP. I also see a Mercedes Dealer in Kelowna listing a new one for $180,000

It seems like a good deal is MSRP in the current market.

I have not seen any markup for the 2022 E53 here in my region (Ontario, Canada). Dealers are listing them as MSRP with fees included thus far.

Is it one of the Toronto Retail Group dealerships? if so I am thinking that corporately owned dealerships don't really mark up their vehicles because Mercedes-Benz Canada themselves discourages marking up on new vehicles. That being said, they recently sold the group and the remaining 7 corporately owned dealerships will join the other 52 privately owned dealerships, I am afraid when the new owner takes over, they will mark up the vehicles.

yea, having them used is the workaround. They can’t really do that with a factory order, that said, they can refuse you a factory order.

No it is not normal. But like every other market, if you're willing to pay it the price gouging will continue.

I paid 79k for a 2019 CPO E53 Cab in November. 21K miles. I have been wondering how much of a premium I paid. Sticker was 101k as it is highly optioned. Looking at this thread I think maybe I did OK. Not great, but OK. Maybe look around for a CPO instead. At least all the chips will be in and everything working.

I believe it is very dependent on your dealer’s location. I walked into a small dealer last weekend, not sure what I would purchase and left with an E53 at sticker. Smaller dealers get allocations of all models, but have a smaller market to sell to. Find a midwestern city, under 200K people, dealer and you might find a sticker price deal.

I bought mine at sticker, though, my sales guy pre warned me that the manager would argue for $15k over. I haggled a bit and made a point that I ordered my car several months ago when MSRP was the norm. They let me go at MSRP....

I checked out most of the dealerships for an E53 here in my area (Bay Area, CA) and everyone had a markup except for the 2 closest to me. They were marked up but they offered me the vehicle for msrp since I've done business with them in the past. I found one about 30 miles away and they wouldn't go lower than a $10K markup. I was literally telling them that if they gave it to me for msrp that day, I was ready to sign the paperwork. They let me walk without any follow up phone calls. Luckily, my neighborhood dealership received one that I liked and they were glad to give it to me for msrp.

Could be a good deal, if the lifetime supply of gas is included …

Quick math: current 10k/year fuel cost estimate from the sticker may go up to 20-30k given the latest trend… in this case markup covers the first five years. And after that time it is the free ride… LOL
