Very angry with Mercedes on lack of parts

My 2021 E53 is stuck for 6 weeks in the shop at the dealer due to a faulty headlight control module. No parts available. The dealer could care less about it. They told me to call Mercedes USA customer service. Nobody picked up for 40 minutes.
Other makes looking better and better.

Why not get the part number for what it is you need and try to find one yourself? You'll either 1 - find the part you need and get your car back or 2 - gain an understanding of the problem the dealer is facing as well in that there is nothing they can do about it when it comes to getting certain parts right now. They are there to sell / service MB, not manufacture parts.

It's not the dealers fault there are global supply chain issues and parts shortages effecting many brands and many parts.

You are right, of course. I’m just venting about the whole thing. Getting blown off by the general manager of the dealership didn’t help.

Yeah, I get it. It's annoying and I'm sure the dealer is equally frustrated with the supply issues.

Could be worse, your Porsche you just waited months to over a year on could be on fire in the middle of the Atlantic. https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/17/tech/...ars/index.html

All I'm getting at here is I wouldn't go burning bridges at the dealership because at the end of the day you're at their mercy so as much as you'd like to give the GM your thoughts, I wouldn't. Just have a drink, see if you can maybe track the part down, and if not just buckle up and be patient. It is what it is.

did the dealer provide you with a service loaner while you wait for the parts ? or are you still driving the car in the meantime ?

At least your GM didn’t refuse to fix/help your problem and just try to buy you out of the car at a ridiculous discount just to get rid of you so he can at least have some inventory.
And I can’t understand why the MB Executive Referral Managers are not more help. <—-that’s sarcasm.
Seriously though, good luck with your problem.

Yes, well, what would be a good offer on a completely loaded 2021 E53 Cabriolet? It took me 4 months to find it and a flight to Pittsburgh to drive it back to Chicago. No, I'm keeping the car. Hopefully it's drivable until it gets fixed.

This is the problem all manufacturers are having. I manage repairs at a high end collision center outside boston thats certified in porsche, vw, audi, mercedes, bmw, range rover, jaguar etc etc etc. Any parts coming from overseas are 5-8 weeks right now depending on how long it sits on a ship waiting to be unloaded. We cant tell our customers when their vehicles will be done because we arent provided any tracking until the item is actually unloaded from the crate its shipped in. Ive been waiting for parts for over 6 weeks on just about every company we service. I cant speak for your dealer and how they handled your particular situation, but I can tell you that we literally have no idea till things get offloaded at ports.

My dealer is trying to do the right thing. They've offered me a loaner. That's great as long as my car is stored inside at their facility. if it's outside, then my insurance is on the hook for damage or theft. It's a bad situation all around. I get that.

Why? It’s in their possession.

It’s something that I ran across once. I’m sure it’s to lower the dealer’s premiums. But it puts your insurance at risk. The service manager did confirm it.

They did confirm that it will be inside. I’ll just have to wait

Every other German make is having the same problems bud, it's the Covid chip shortage age you're living in. Get MBUSA to give you free maintenance for 50K miles, that's what they are offering for extended delays.

I had to wait from August to last week for a new seat.

It's insane right now.

When you say the dealer doesn’t care, did they tell you your part is on order and provide you a loaner car until the part comes in?

Part supplies, in all industries, are randomly back ordering due to global supply chain issues. It’s magnified when the parts are assembled from sourced global parts.

It is what it is. It sucks.

Are you saying you let the phone ring for 40 minutes?

Calling all metallurgists.... Have not read everything here, but. What about rehardening cam lobes and then regrinding? What about hardfacing and regrinding? Spray and regrind? Someone go collect the cores to create a batch. Will the lifters "rise" to the task of supporting the new cam base circle? May still be a lot of untapped hot rod capability out there not investigated? Yes, anneal, harden , straighten very tricky. Just saying, existential crisis here for many.
