Oil leak thoughts

When my wife left today in the E car, I noticed a small drop of oil in the garage in her parking space. A little bigger than a 50 cent piece. Well tonight when I had time and she was back, I looked under it the best I could and found this (see picture below). This is from the front facing toward the rear. The car hasn’t been serviced in about 6 months if I remember correctly. The app says it has about 155 days left (7/12/23). It has just over 35k on the odometer and is under warranty till the end of May 2023. I’m going to call the dealership in the morning and schedule an appointment but I was just curious if anyone might have any thoughts on this.
Thanks.

That’s significant leak. Another RMS failure on our hands ?

That’s what I was thinking after I looked back and saw about how long it’s been since it was serviced. Fingers crossed this goes smoothly. I’m more worried about that. The local dealership and I aren’t on the best of relationships right now.

Any other dealership you can go ? … even if its like 1 hr drive per se.

my rms repair process took nearly 2 months. 2-3 weeks of going back and forth to dealer for diagnostic checks and then 1 month to repair (having to wait for parts to come here and there over the Christmas/New Year holidays).

I recently had the same oil leak…..two things. A.) I was told there’s a gasket that’s been having issues (I don’t remember what gasket.)
B.) don’t race it until it’s warmed up. ( may have done that a time or two.)

The next closest dealership is about 1hr and 15 minutes. They are a new dealership from a large auto group. I’ve been thinking about going to them anyway considering all the trouble I’ve had with the management at my local dealership. Although I like my sales guy, new car sales manager, and finance guy.
And I’m usually very good at letting the car warm up before any spirited drives and the car has never been “tracked.” Just some fun mountains drives.
I’ll see what they say tomorrow. For now I’m not telling or showing my wife. Haha.

This is becoming worrisome! There should be a poll started with model year, mileage, service issues regarding oil leaks. Things seem to be indicating an endemic problem at plus 35000 miles.

The prospect of having my car out of commission for up to 2 months waiting on parts for a preventable failure (namely the oil separators) is very disturbing. Those with higher mileage and engine mods should be very fearful of non-warranty coverage of a very costly event.

Update

Well I dropped the car off on Tuesday and got a call Wednesday afternoon that said something like, well we didn’t get too your car yesterday but today we found a transmission leak and fixed the seat cover. We have to order a bunch of seals and heating element for the door panel heater (second time this has happened). Come get the car because its going to be a awhile on the parts and its ok to drive.
Now we wait again.

Transmission leak? Those don’t come up often (ever?) on this site for low mileage 9Gs. Best wishes for a repair with the shortest wait possible.

I think I remember that correctly but I was in and out very quickly with my whole family in tow. I also remember the leak to be more black/darker like oil so I was a little confused too. I’ll ask again when I take it back.

Put a white sheet of paper (or something) underneath the car overnight for the next little while and see if it’s engine oil.

Wipe a bit off the floor with a finger and smell it. Engine oil and trans fluid smell distinctly different.

I’ve already cleaned the evidence up in the garage and without jacking the car back up and climbing under it I cannot see anything. I’ve had cardboard under the car since I first noticed the spot and nothing else has dropped. So luckily its not leaking too bad.

Quick update. I got a call finally today that the parts came in. The advisor wasn’t 100% sure but he thought it was the “front differential, or something like that and it was going to be a big repair that will take a few days.” Does that sound correct or does anyone have any ideas?
Here’s another tidbit, now they can’t get to it till the end of April. Wow. MB (or maybe its just my local dealership) is starting to suck.

Depending on what they have to disassemble to remove and replace the faulty part, a couple days could be warranted. As far as getting parts and having repairs done, I've started going to an independent on all repairs that aren't warranty related. The dealership we've bought cars from claims they can't get parts from MB. They ordered engine mounts for a GL450 11 months ago and can't provide an update or status. An independent shop in Kernersville had the mounts for me in two days. Watching the threads for releases on the new SL, E63s and final edition, as well as complaints of problems that can't seem to be fixed on owners cars, it doesn't appear to me that anyone is actually running the company. We are in the market to replace one of our two GL450, and, I'm looking for something other than a Mercedes as I've lost confidence in them at every level.

MB is a ship lost at sea. Hopefully they don't run into an iceberg or a U-boat.

Smelling the (now cleaned up) leaking fluid would have told you what was leaking. Engine oil and differential fluid smell unlike one another.

Either repair, RMS or front axle, are big ones. So the time element is comparable. I haven't seen too many W213 front axle leaks reported on this site, but it is not out of the question.

Unfortunately, it appears you are correct. I read an article about the current "leader".It seemed his big claim to fame is he wears jeans and a designer shirt to work instead of a suit like the "Old Guard that ran the company before him..

I’m not worried about the time that it takes to fix the problem, I’m mad that it takes that long to get to my car to fix the problem.
The advisor also said something along the lines of, well we got to get to it soon because the warranty is up soon. I had to laugh.

Well I got the car back today after a week. The paperwork says, “Front differential pinion seal leaking”
Does that help or can anyone elaborate anymore what that means?

Looks like another common issue for other Mercedes models as well.

This post is exactly what happened with my 2019 E63S. I bought it at 38k bone stock. Three days later I returned it for service because it was leaking oil, and threw a CEL. It was diagnosed as an upper oil pan gasket leak, so I approved the repair. That turned into a 8 week ordeal because they have to drop the cradle, get parts, ect. Since they were in there, they noticed my RMS was leaking as well. They replaced it. Did a logic test of my oil separators and they were deemed "good". Long story short, this seems to be a pretty big problem. My only saving grace was it was all covered by the dealership I bought it from, and my extended warranty was not touched. However, waiting 5 years to buy this thing, enjoying it for 3 days, and then not having it for another 8 weeks was quite cumbersome and put a bad taste in my mouth right off the rip.
