If you know, you know.

Blocking the light sensor for the photochromic mirror? Why? You like glare?

I absolutely hate that function. At night you can't tell what kind of car is behind you through the tint and with that on as well. Last 3 amg's it's the first thing I do. Cops here don't put up with ANY mods though, so maybe it's different for me.

Self-inflicted problem I guess. Yes tint makes night visibility a problem. It's like driving around with sunglasses at night. I once bought a used car that was tinted. I couldn't even properly see out the side windows at night. The sensor in the rearview mirror also controls the dimming of the side mirrors in case you weren't aware. I wouldn't turn this off, but then I don't have tint. I prefer to be able to see at night.

Is the sensor monitoring ambient light (day vs night) or headlights from traffic behind you?

The sensor he is covering up detects light from the headlights of cars behind you. The ambient light sensor is facing forward and tells the car if it's night or day. The mirror only transitions if the ambient light sensor says it's dark outside and the light sensor in the mirror detects light from behind the car.

Yea you’re definitely the only one. Never even once thought about doing that and I have tint as well. Infact half the time I have the power rear shade up to block headlight glare even more.

Other than seeing that headlights are behind me for situational awareness, I could not really give a f*** what's going on back there, lol.

I find that most things in my mirror are receding rapidly.

I agree with this. Not sure why the OP needs to know exactly what kind of car is behind him. If you put crazy dark tint on then that sucks. Put on a film that works good for day and night and this will never be an issue. Not only that but tint does not need to be extremely dark to be effective with a quality film. Still looks good and provides privacy, stills rejects the heat and UV, and doesn’t make you blind at night. 👍🏼

Today I learned... I am indeed the only one doing this 😂.

I feel like I made it pretty clear why, to see if cops are behind me. No mods are legal where I am, there for I like to see who's behind me. Without turning tharlt function off, I cannot tell. It's only 20 percent rear window tint lol.
