interesting enough, just had the plugs changed less than 1000 miles prior.

Keep this thread posted on findings...
this is like your first bad thing in 150,000 miles right?

yes.

So intresting notes.

The dealer ship can see the error but also noted that the ECU reported 3% gas left when there was more than 3/4 full. So that is intresting.

So far they have not found anything and not been able to replicate. I drove the car there and it was running fine.

I think it has to do with the cylinder deactivation that engaged (it does not take much to engage) and then disengaged (ie went from 8 => 4 => to 8 in less than 1 second causing that thunk).

More than likely i will just keep an eye on it.

Update: The dealership did not find anything. They reset the MIL and they also reset all adaptations and asked me to drive it hard,

I have been driving it fairly aggressive and no issues.

Opinion: I think the issue started when the car went from 8 cylinder mode to 4 cylinder mode and "something" happened and then it never got out of 4 cylinder mode leading to the low power and sputter condition.

Hopefully like posted above, the issue wont come back until 300,000+ miles

Update #2:

Ok after all that hoopla, the car has been running golden once again. About to trip 150,000...

With that said, I think (just a guess but due to the problem seen on Xentry) that the issue stems from the Vented AMG "silver" cap. I have since re-installed the OEM black fuel cap that came with the car just incase.

Is there a superseded part available for that silver cap that might work?

If there is, i have not seen it.

They are all vented (at least that is what the bottom shows) and they have that center protruding..

Which is a shame I mean the cap looks good and it is important because you know, we need to gas up pretty often with this beast and it is nice to be able enjoy the gas up more with the newer style cap.

at the cost of venting...

As i said, no clue if this is the culprit BUT it wont help as most European cars do actually monitor the pressure in the fuel tank hence why most will kick MIL when the gas cap is left off.

It's common in the world of car that when a coil goes bad, you will not see a CEL right away as the car ECM needs time as it will try to resolve the problem on it's own by adding more fuel or removing fuel. Normally after 3 or 4 starts, the CEL will light up and then that is when the game of finding the problem, repeating the problem and then solving the problem starts.

Being an oem part it should not cause a CEL though, is it a design fault or just not working on this particular vehicle? What was that cap originally designed for? the AMG GT?
