Shopping for 2021-2023 E63 AMG S

Morning gang

New member here so take it easy on me, I figured some of my questions may be repetitive and I apologize for that.

The business has been good and my CPA is telling me to spend some money. I know that this isn't a best car from tax savings perspective (Not 6,000lbs Gross weight) but I've always wanted one. Also inclined to get one because of all this EV non sense, I need me some V8 Power.

Couple questions for you guys
  • Is there not a 2024 model yet? Can I order 2023 still?
  • Are the dealers dealing at all on brand new 2023's or are we talking MSRP or above? If they're dealing, what kind of discount % would you consider decent?
  • Are there any must have options that I should have? Options that you didn't think you wanted but wished you would have gotten later on?
  • Any major issue with current gen to watch out for, if buying used?
Thanks again guys, appreciate it

This is along the lines of what I'm looking at. I imagine this is a terrible price and I'm starting to deep dive into research. I'm open to other colors as well just not black. One black car was enough for me to not want another.

If the 2024 makes it to market it will likely have an inline 6cyl with hybrid electric boost. Certainly not something I would be interested in, but you may. I've not been shopping since I bought mine 2.5 years ago so I'm not sure about haggling on prices for a new 2023. There weren't a lot of them built so I would be surprised if anyone would sell below MSRP. Many are probably still adding ADM to the sticker prices. My car was ordered and not as heavily optioned as many on here, but I wouldn't change anything if I were doing it all over again. There is a thread on here about some transmission issues with 2023's that a couple owners are dealing with. Not aware of any other issues.

V8 is discontinued in the new E class for 2024.

Rear main seal leak seems to be the biggest problem popping up for the V8 across all models.

You probably won't find a 2023 under MSRP. Yet. Depends how long they linger - but like was said, they didn't really make a lot of 2023 so they may all sell. Even with the dealer markups over MSRP.

A 2021 will be near the 2023 price because they didn't make any in 2022. You will be missing a couple years warranty going for a 2021. These cars need warranty IMHO.

There is no "cheap" or "great deal" 2021-2023 E63. If you get one at MSRP and it has options you like consider yourself lucky.

Or wait a few more months until Dec/Jan and see if there are any 2023 left and how dealers feel about dickering at that time. You could save money, or, miss out ever being able to get a new one.

There are only 25 non Final Edition cars in inventory nationwide. I'm sure most dealers are still @ MSRP plus. Final Edition cars sticker @ $170,000 so plenty of room for markup on a regular E 63S. If you could find someone who would sell @ MSRP or close to it that would be a great deal.

As for options I would have liked fully loaded but this is the most loaded car I could find: (edit I'm going to bold all the stuff I couldn't live without)

DX1 - Exclusive Package
- Drive-Dynamic Multicontour Front Seats - massage and active bolsters
- MBUX Interior Assist - waste of money
- Air Balance Package
- Energizing Comfort
- THERMOTRONIC Automatic Climate Control

DP1 - Premium Package-94
- Climate Comfort Front Seats
- 360-Degree Camera
- Foot Activated Trunk/Tailgate Release
- Enhanced Heated Front Seats
- Heated Armrests - Front
- KEYLESS GO Package - just leave the keys in my pocket
- Parking Package
- Warmth Comfort Package
- Head-Up Display
- Heated Rear Seats
- Soft Close Doors

DL1 - Intelligent Drive Package
- Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
- Active Stop and Go Assist
- Active Steering Assist
- PRE-SAFE Impulse Side
- Active Speed Limit Assist
- Active Lane Changing Assist
- Enhanced Stop and Go
- Map-Based Speed Adaptation
- Driving Assistance Package
- Active Blind Spot Assist
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- PRE-SAFE PLUS

Another must have for me but many don't care:
B07 - Carbon Ceramic Brakes

Interior and exterior Carbon trim are personal preference based on looks:
B28 Exterior Carbon Trim
H73 Interior Carbon Trim
DG1 AMG Stealth Package - replaces chrome trim with black

Nice to haves:
PAF - Acoustic Comfort Package (quieter cabin apparently)
L6H Carbon Steering Wheel (if you like carbon)

The Options that would have been nice that my car is missing:
Dinamica Headliner - replaced black cloth with velvety goodness
Sun Package with roll up rear window shades aka "peasant blockers"
DashCam

And if you are not getting a wagon the Burmester 3D sound system available in the sedan would be a must-have for me:
Burmester 3D Surround Sound System 23 high-performance speakers and 1,450 watts

The only issue I've heard of with the current gen is Rear Main Seal oil leaks and Oil Separator issues. Seems to happen over 50,000 miles.
I think my transmission issue is just a weird one off - I don't think anyone else here is having the same issue. And I'd still buy my car again even with the issue. They are fantastic cars and the last of a breed, end on an era. GO FOR IT!!

Thanks man, I really appreciate your input as well as the few other guys that chimed in on this thread. Does MB have a website anywhere or is there a 3rd party service where I can pull up a car sticker based on the VIN number? I hit up a few dealers asking for a window sticker to verify the options but all of them are ghosting me not wanting to send it to me. Not sure why

Is there a reason there were no 2022 cars made? Never seen manufacturers skip a year. Maybe supply chain issues due to parts?

It's crazy how high the 2021 cars are... almost better to buy a new one

Bunch of reasons. They announced it during covid, probably supply chain issues, diversion of V8 into more profitable G63 and other models, emission requirements. 2021 was then believed to be the last year of the E63 V8 but they brought it back for 2023.

Is there a lemon law in Canada? Seems like your car has been unusable for more than 30 days. Time to get a fire under someone's rear!

No lemon law.
I waited over a year for them to decide to make more E63 then another 7 months just trying to buy one. I’m a veteran at waiting. I’ll make up the lost time in 1/4 mile increments.

You guys were so right, I reached out to like 10 different dealers and they all have varying amounts of dealer markup over MSRP on these cars. Almost got a used one but it got snagged up right before my eyes.

I feel like this will be a long process. I fell in love with Grey Magno and I don't think I could settle for any other color anymore

There were a number of reasons given. Supply chain disruptions, emissions issues, etc.

You best bet is to call instead of relying on the internet. Quite a few dealers won't respond to an email only inquiry on a high end car.

I spoke a little too soon gents. One got listed about 5 hours away from me this morning. Was able to get it for $1k off MSRP which is not great but better than ADM bull**** the other dealers were putting me though.

Below is the build sheet and a couple of potato pictures the dealer sent me. Will be picking it up this Friday for my 40th birthday! Excited is an understatement! My first Mercedes too!

I bought my 2016 used with factory warranty. I cold called dealers and after missing out on a couple for being too slow I just sent a deposit on the next one I found. The cars advertised were already sold when I called or ragged out examples being sold privately.

Good luck in your search - after you are educated enough just jump on one you like or it’ll slip away.
