Looking to get a 2021 E63S AMG questions..

I am new to Mercedes and this will be my first AMG. Looking at 2021 E63S and want to know how the interior build quality is on these cars. I find hard plastics, rattles, and other interior noises very annoying in a car which ruins the driving experience for me. Anyone want to share their experience?

You drive a Tesla and you are asking about build quality of an AMG? Different worlds.

Anything is better than a Tesla when it comes to build quality and interiors. Having said that, an AMG won't be rattle free. Comes with the territory of a firm suspension. NVH is higher in an AMG by design. If you want a sofa on wheels take a look at the regular S Class.

Gotcha, I feel an S class would be boring for me ..i’m sure it’s still more fun than the Tesla but I want the AMG

I hear you. The S Class is indeed super boring. All regular Mercedes-Benz are to me. The AMGs are based on the regular models but with life and character infused. They are very different from the regular models and super enjoyable. The occasional rattle or creak doesn't really bother me. It's about the driving experience and the sound. I did have a few rattles fixed on my C63S coupe that started to bother me and at least my dealership takes it seriously and puts felt where rattles come from, but at the end of the day, the firm suspension will knock some things loose over time. I'd suggest you take one out for a spin. EVs don't really do it for me, either, but I did somewhat enjoy driving the EQE AMG at a recent AMG Driving Academy event in Austria, but Teslas to me are just plastic laptops on wheels. The chassis of a Tesla is terrible.

They did soften the suspension in 2020+ models compared to pre-2020. (Might be 2021 but anyway...) Still firm and everything he says still stands, but it is a bit better than the earlier models.

I’ll just have to go and drive one in person before committing , found one nearby. I also drove an 2021 m5 and was surprisingly underwhelmed by it..hope the AMG has more character.

BMW M has lost me when they decided to abandon the DCT and put the ZF8 automatic in their cars. They have tweaked the tuning in some of the later models such as the CSL where it is approaching a dual clutch, but it's still a regular automatic pretending to be a dual clutch. In the M5 it's known to be too laggy and such, so much so that BMW M went back to the drawing board for the M3 and redid the software, but it still is just too vague and soft for a performance car. The sound is also fairly muted on the M models. AMG continues to use its unique multi clutch transmission. I know some people don't like it, because like a DCT it can make low speed driving jerky at times, but it pays back with a direct feel of the drivetrain and crisp fast shifts as it should be in a performance car. To me the transmission is one of the bests things about the current AMGs.

To be perfectly honest, these larger performance cars do lack for me. They are heavy and more of an executive sedan. Meant to go fast in a straight line, but aren't all that dynamic overall and don't offer the neck snapping straight line acceleration of fast EVs. AWD also takes a lot of the fun out of it, because the car just sticks and doesn't offer all that much play. Too safe. Both the M5 and E63 have a drift mode which makes them 100% RWD, but you have to completely turn off ESP to have ultimate fun. This is one reason why I opted for the C63S coupe. It's just more of a hooligan with its RWD setup, lighter weight and more nimble handling.

The other thing to add is that coming from a Tesla you won't be accustomed to having multiple driving modes and a 3-stage ESP system. What mode did you drive that M5 in? In normal/comfort modes these things aren't all that exciting. Make sure you give the E63 a go in RACE mode and put ESP in Sport Handling mode, and put the transmission in M and shift yourself. These cars also have individual modes where you can set them up to your liking. The M5 has two individual modes that you can program to the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel and the latest AMGs have controls on the steering wheel as well to adjust the drive mode. You gonna have to play with that. These cars are very different in Comfort mode vs RACE mode and with the ability to adjust ESP there's a whole gamut of adjustability. A Tesla doesn't let you adjust the ESP except if you have the track package, but even then you can never turn it off completely as you can in an AMG etc, and you can't adjust the suspension and other aspects of the car in a Tesla either. The only thing you can adjust is the steering to make it a bit "sportier", but you have to dive into the touchscreen to do it. You may also wanna sign up for the AMG Driving Academy and experience these cars properly before buying one. Buying a brand new 63 model actually includes a complementary day.

I drove the BMW in Comfort and sport modes, it just didn't feel like it had over 600HP...the center buttons would make a cracking sound when you pressed on them. I guess I need something that isn't so secluded from what's happening outside. I rode a BMW S1000RR sport bike for couple years and I guess I was expecting some level of fun and engagement as the bike. Going to drive an E63 this weekend, I will try the different modes and see how it feels. Appreciate the advice.

I guess I could just wait to find out this weekend but I drove my buddies AMG GTR and the turbos on that car are really loud and the car offers a lot of feedback. Can I expect the E63S to have loud turbo noise?

Honestly you are likely not finding what you are looking for in the E63. The cars in this segment while being performance cars are trying to strike a balance between sporty yet comfortable long distance traveling. The E63 has more noise insulation and even acoustic glass to keep the inside somewhat isolated for a more limo like drive. Both the E63 and M5 have air suspension.

You might also wanna look at the C63 like I did. While it's still a great and plenty comfortable grand tourer it is rawer than the E63. Both the M5 and the E63 while having a lot of power are also quite heavy at around 4500 lbs, so much of the extra power goes towards moving the additional weight. The C63 has a coil suspension, so it naturally will provide more feedback.

Or then as you say the GT, but then we are in 2-seater less practical territory. Begs the question, do you need a 4-door sedan or why are you looking at the E63? I've driven almost all recent AMGs all the way up to the GT Black Series. I like the E63 the least. Biggest issue for me is weight and size. Wheel base is too long to be nimble. I'd get the GT63 4-door if I needed a 4 door sedan in that size class. The GT63 is more dynamic. Still heavy, but it has more soul despite being based on the E63. The additional chassis work that AMG has put into it makes a difference. Specifically the rear wheel steering shrinks the car, so it drives like a smaller car despite being about the same size as the E63. I love the GT 2-doors especially the GT R and GT BS on the track, but on the public roads I much prefer my C63S coupe.

Here's my lap with the BS on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit last year. The car is somewhat quiet on the outside, but inside I don't think you'd complain about lack of noise. The recording is not the best unfortunately. Just the left channel.

I'm 60+. If I got a Coupe would consider a 2020-2021 AMG S63. That S-Class is beautiful although heavier than the AMG C63s at nearly 4800lbs. For cross country driving, I need AWD. Was never a fan of the 4-door GT63 or GT53 Styling. If I need to Attack the Block, Carve local Canyons, and Mountain Passes more aggressively will pull out the Ducati Diavel from the Bat Cave and live on the Edge at full blast until deceptive gas tank approaches E. GT Black Series is too expensive at $325K...maybe my Smart Kids will repay pops for their MIT and GA Tech education with zero student debts? Nope.

I pulled the trigger and picked up an E63! Drove it home 1700 miles over the weekend...great way to get a feel for the car. Very impressed so far, a good amount of road noise though and I think it's something to do with tires. There is a humming sound that comes from the front right tire I believe , most prominent around 55-65 mph. Other than that, love the car and glad with my decision!

Congrats on picking up the car. You will quickly learn that they eat tires. Especially the front tires have aggressive camber, so if you do mostly straight line driving it will chew up the inner edge of the front tires. I get about 8k miles on the front tires with my C63 and 10-12k on the rear tires. I do drive aggressively. Get a regular alignment, too.

Thanks, great... 2 cars that destroy tires. Tesla had wires come out on the inner side as well around 20k..

19" on the Tesla and you have no worries. Hate oversized wheels these days.
