Comand system - Early model 2018 E63s

So folks, just a quick question regarding Comand. Can the early production 2018 models have their Comand System updated to the ones found in the later production 2018 units/the one found on the 2019?

The older UI on the older 2018s is a bit more frustrating to than I had expected.

generally I think the answer is no… however, it might depend on how early. Edition 1 cars are 2017 production which has old modules, the ambient lighting can be upgraded (many people here did this), but the whole software I don’t think so.
what is it you are trying to upgrade in the command ? Also what exact production date is your vehicle?

Production date looks to be May 2017.

First pic below is the COMAND interface I see that is definitely older.

Second pic is from the later ‘18s (and the one I’m used to coming from a ‘19 C43.

I don't know what that first one is, but the second one is not the same you are used to from your 2019 C43. Starting with the 2019 model years, MB switched to the new Mercedes me connect platform with a new phone app, OTA updates etc. 2018 models don't have that. They are still using the old mBrace platform, and some services have already been turned down. For example no more live traffic. If you want what you have in your 2019, you need to look for a 2019. There's no upgrade path to Mercedes me connect.

It looks like the first picture is NTG 5.1.

The second picture looks like NTG 5.5

Are the center concole control the same on both systems?

The second picture is an earlier version of NTG 5.5. As said it was updated further in 2019 for Mercedes me connect along with the newer steering wheel. The graphics look slightly different in the 2019+ NTG 5.5 (at least they do in my 2019 C63S with NTG 5.5) and it has new features.

that 1st picture is not an earlier NTG 5.5, my 18 E63s ED1 looks similar to picture 2 except it does not have the background image (it is a black background instead). It was that way since the original software version (0.7.x) to the latest version (6.4.xx). It is on Merecedes Me... not Mercedes Me Connect.

My car was built October 2017 and picked up from the factory in Sindelfigen in November. The tech made the point that this car had the refreshed infotainment system over the ED-1 and earlier 2018 build cars. Don't know when the transition date was in 2017 for the 2018 MY cars, but it was at least a bit earlier than the beginning of October.

I said the 2nd picture was an earlier version of NTG 5.5, not the 1st. I've never seen the first in a W213. I always thought they all had NTG 5.5 from the beginning. However, by earlier I mean pre-2019 NTG 5.5 with Mercedes me (mBrace) like yours. My understanding is that 2017-2018 have NTG 5.5 w/ Mercedes me (mBrace), 2019-2021 have the updated NTG 5.5 w/ Mercedes me connect, and then the 2022 FL got MBUX. So the W213 overall has gone through three updates, four if the 1st picture is actually what the early 2017 came with.

@superswiss I think the first picture is the Audio20 (Garmin) which is different than the command/NTG (Bosch) interface. I think it was carry over from W212 to W213 early production before NTG was main stay... but who knows. Usually the give away is the interface (raised middle touchpad and dial = NTG 5.5. Not sure what the interface was for NTG 5.1/Audio20)...

Yes, Audio20 didn't have the touchpad, only the jog wheel. Not familiar with the Canadian specs, but I believe US spec W213 all came with NTG standard as opposed to some other models where Audio20 was standard and to get NTG you had to option the multimedia package. If the one OP is considering has indeed Audio20, then there's no upgrade path, either. Best to post the build sheets, so we can see the option codes.

Can confirm that the car does not have audio 20, has the regular burmiester set up and has the scroll wheel touchpad combo.

I’ll see about the build sheets!
