I would like the radar detector to come on and off when the car is turned on and off
Thanks!
I have the HUD, acoustic, sun/heat or whatever, options so there are only a few place where you can put a radar detector or fastpass and still have good signal through the windshield.
If you look at the car from in front under the right lighting conditions you can see the areas in the glass where mounting is possible.
I have my Uniden R3 mounted in the center of the windshield just above the dash. It is down low and out of my way and doesn't obstruct my view. It is wired to the fuse panel by the passenger footwell with the cable routed up inside the molding then along the top of the dash. Pretty clean.

Thanks man
I have an R8 but I haven't even taken it out of the box. It looks like it has a bettery save option on it where it turns itself off after an hour if the car is stationary. I imagine this is what you do with yours.
Does it turn back on with the car or do you have to unplug it and plug it back in?
Thanks
Thought about maybe just also getting a longer cigarette lighter cable and plugging it into cigarette lighter in passenger footwell and snaking cable around the passenger side door etc.
The fuse location I chose is shown in the next photo. I used a fuse insert with its own fuse carrier and then that is connected to the radar detector power wire which also picks up the ground from the lug in the photo. The wire is routed up under the molding and comes out on the right side of the dash. I then just tucked it in along the top of the dash next to the windshield. This is pretty clean because my detector is mounted with the suction cup attachment right above the dash in the center of the car.

I do have an adjustable low voltage disconnect that I could have installed that would disconnect the radar detector if the car's battery voltage drops below some set level. But I've never installed it because its never really been an issue.
