Question regarding Extended Warranty

Purchased a 2021 CPO E53 about a month ago, ended up purchasing

Wheel & Tire - 3,475
4 year extended warranty - 5,575
Prepaid Maintenance - 2475

Anyone know if this is reasonable? I’m assuming everything’s a bit higher since its an AMG but any information or perspectives would be great.

Also, I read I could have bought these items from any Mercedes dealer. I wish I knew that but one thing I’d like to know is if it is still possible to do so. If I can cancel this warranty/add on’s through the dealer which I purchased through if I say find better pricing at any other MB dealers in the US.

Pocket the wheel tire cash and pay for tires and wheel repairs as you go - chances are you'll never use the warranty or very little of it... it's a ridiculous amount they charged you

the prepaid - how many years or services?

the extended warranty - same advice - you can just pocket the cash and pay as you go, chances are same you'll not need it in your ownership or the real costs of ownership will be in the years beyond the extended warranty term

I paid approx 2 grand for Mercedes wheel and tire insurance. Coverers me until 2026- no deductible. Only covers 8 wheel repairs, though (unlimited tires and wheels can be aftermarket as long as they are the stock sizes).

I paid approx $3400 for an extra 2 years of CPO coverage from Mercedes

I do not believe the maintenance is discounted anywhere. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this

There have been many discussions regarding Star Prepaid Maintenance in this forum. This is my opinion and experience (all indicative pricing is Mercedes-Benz dealer) :

Service A and B alternate with A costing around $300-$500, and B costing around $400-$800. The only difference between the two services is that B adds the engine compartment cabin dust filter replacement and a brake fluid change. If these were the only service requirements, Star Prepaid Maintenance would be grossly overpriced.

The Mercedes Overview for Service Sheet dated 10/03/2022 (AP00.20-P-1240XA) adds the following required maintenance:

Service 8 every 30,000 mi/3 years
  1. Engine compartment : Replace air filter element.
  2. Rear axle: Change oil.
Service 12 every 50,000 mi/5 years
  1. Replace spark plugs.
Service 20 every 30,000 mi/3 years
  1. Automatic transmission: Change oil and oil filter.
Service 27 every 50,000 mi/5 years
  1. Transfer case: Change oil.
Costs for these maintenance items vary but can be quite involved and hence, expensive. Each, engine air filters excepted, can range individually from $400-$1,500 with the spark plug change being particularly onerous and hence expensive.

I recently purchased the 3-year pre-paid maintenance and have just had the 30,000 mile required maintenance done. Had I elected to pay for this service, it would have cost me over $2,000 - I do live in the Tri-State area so dealer pricing is at the top end. My 40,000 mile service would have cost me around $700 and the 50,000 mile service with the spark plug replacement and transfer case oil change would be in the ballpark of $2,500. Purchasing Star Prepaid Maintenance is probably going to save me around $2,000 if not more as service pricing seems to go up every year.

Regarding where to purchase Star Prepaid Maintenance, I did some Internet research, called around and ultimately purchased from: Jeff Jackson atMercedes-Benz of Louisvllle - 502-894-6829.

If this maintenance was done by an independent shop the numbers would change and Star Prepaid Maintenance may not be cost-effective. That said, I suspect it would not be significantly cheaper, at least where I am located.

I got some fresh snake oil that I milked from a king cobra this morning. You seem the kind of feller that would appreciate this fine product at a premium price. It's something that Jeff Jackson at Mercedes Benz of Louisville could only wish he could acquire.

How do we know that snake oil is legitimate? For all we know it is counterfeit or not sustainable harvested. Can you prove it is from a King Cobra? Certifications?

Full documentation available with proof of A and B services done for highest quality. We understand that there are counterfit snake oils out there from regular garden snakes whom identify as a king cobra but this isn't one of those!

Purchased my extended warranty through Jeff Jackson several years back when I first got my car. After shopping around, he had by far the lowest price available through the various MB dealers that I contacted. Highly recommend getting a quote from him if you're looking.
