W213 Engine Warning Light Question

Hi,

Any help with this is appreciated.

I recently bought a W213 Coupe. All running fine but then an orange (solid not flashing) warning light came up. The first time this happened it disappeared after I restarted the car. The second time it stayed for 4 or 5 restarts. I wanted to test something so I filled the car to the brim with diesel. I started the car again and the warning was there but I drove for a few miles and restarted and the light disappeared again.

There is no sense that the car has any problems. The car doesn't go into limp mode etc.

Any thoughts on what the likely trouble is?

early sign of a possible coils issue. Bring your car into your shop or dealer to have it checked out.

Maybe the fill-up has nothing to do with it, but most manufacturers instruct you not to fill the fuel tank up to the brim (which I take to mean the fill cap). My understanding is that there can be vent line connections in the filler neck, and if these get filled with fuel, you can end up with major headaches. When the fuel dispenser nozzle clicks, quit pumping.

It sounds like you are in the wrong forum. This one is for the AMG variants. AMGs don't run on diesel. Anyway, a solid CEL is typically something emissions related and can be as simple as the fuel cap being loose or leaking. You have to connect an OBDII diagnostics tool to read out the actual error codes to know why the light came on.

Thank you. I will do. I wanted to see if someone had this exact problem though. It is under warranty so I will definitely check it out.

Sorry, to the brim meant to the nozzle click.

Sorry, it is AMG-Line. My mistake.

I was hoping someone would say definitively it was something simple based on my story. I will have the diagnostics run.

As the warning has now cleared off the dash will the error code still be saved when they run the diagnostic?

Sounds like coil issues. Had the same issue. Engine was misfiring. All coils have been replaced but one. Luckily, they have been replaced under warranty.

No, they don't. Diesel engines ignite the fuel using compression heat, not spark plugs. This thread is in the wrong forum as said.
