Residual values are usually a crap shoot. My 2021 AMG E63S wagon had a 3-yr Residual percentage of 54% according to MBFS. Actually, market conditions when I turned it in were not that low and I received a check for over $23000.

The Residual % on my 2024 AMG EQEX4 was set to 56% which is probably fantasy. However, I never purchase a vehicle and only lease, so the downside is all on MBFS.

The article you posted is the reality for certain. However, if you look at the 2024 BMW i5 touring model the side profile is identical to the MB EQE SUV. Audi has a more traditional design language. The next iteration of EV's will certainly be different.

I'm curious how much battery efficiency is gained by making these vehicles jellybean shaped, I would be willing to relinquish 10 to 15% battery efficiency in order to obtain a more traditional profile from my vehicle particularly at this price point

For me the gain is infinity percent. Never consumed a single carbon atom (or electron for that matter) in a jelly bean. But, to each their own.

Why do you hate the earth?

They never will admit to the carbon offset of all of the new copper wires they are running to the COAL powered grid in there FL....then, do it again after every hurricane.

I think you have me mistaken, I have no interest in owning an electric vehicle.

I was just commenting on the fact that if sales are so poor due to the shape of the vehicle, at least in large part, I would think that a typical buyer would want a better shaped vehicle that was a more traditional profile that also compromised a little bit of battery efficiency.

I vote with my wallet, and apparently Mercedes buyers are also voting with their wallet. Hence the possibility of the V8 comeback.

EQE already has crappy range. And extremely overpriced at whatever junk discount they're trying to get rid of them at. Making it less ugly is futile.

The percentage that you've mentioned is fairly close to what is gained by making the coefficient of drag significantly decreased with a smooth shape. Most EV manufacturers are using very similar body shapes. Even the wheels are designed to reduce drag. It all adds up. 10% of the efficiency deficit is about 30 miles of range for most of the current battery configurations. Even the diameter of the wheels affects the range. Of course, this is the AMG forum where MPG is not important, especially with customizations. My experience with my wagon was an average of 18-20 MPG for the life of the wagon,

Very true. I voted to receive $23,000 from the dealer and to walk away from the probable time-bomb engine RMS issues. The AMG EQEX4 met my criteria, but I would have preferred a wagon format rather than a mid-size SUV. It meets my needs very well. I haven't missed going to the gas station every two weeks to fill up the tank.

I've got no problem with your perspective. Just don't take my vote away.
