I'm on my first wagon and there is no planning, or anything intellectual that will ultimately save you. These are the greatest cars on the planet. Owning one is a joy and a risk.

Nonetheless, MB's traditionally depreciate, so if you're buying this as a temporary car until your next one, know that this will lose you money. But if losing the money is worth the enjoyment, then that's fine.
In terms of G80 vs. E63S, you need to ask yourself a few questions:
1) Do you like driving an ugly, beaver toothed car?
2) Do you like driving a car that has a terribly designed boring interior?
3) Do you like being known as a 3-series driver, or do you want to be a little more "grown up" with an E-class?
4) And do you like driving a car that has a beautiful exterior and interior car with an amazing V8?
I think the answer is clear, but these are my personal opinions of what I like.

I would also like to say this is my 2nd E63S (first being the W212 E63s) and these engine are built like tanks. Knock on wood but I never had any issues besides your normal wear and tear.
Just keep up to date with your maintenance and you will be good.
