Recent goodwill

Has anyone had any recent luck with getting something covered or partially covered by MB under good will? I’ve got 50,100 on the odometer, 1.5 yrs past time on warranty and now the known RMS leak.
If you had any luck, how did you get it? Did you talk to anyone specific?
Also, I’ve been quoted over $7k to fix it. What are some other prices if you had yours fixed out of pocket. (I’m starting to call Indy shops now.)
Thanks for the help (since I’m trying to decide if I keep it or send it down the road.)

From the sticky -

https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...fixes-diy.html

several threads discussing cost, as low as $5500; I've read NO threads on anyone getting goodwill coverage, just CPO coverage and third party warranty coverage, $5500 (see first link, was rms and ovs parts and labor):

Thanks. I missed the stickys. Might be because my BP was boiling at the time.

regarding goodwill - several threads discussing this on the entire mbworld forum and it is dependent on the gm or service manager and their relationship with mbusa.

you can first call mbusa or if you have a good relationship with your SM that would be my first recommendation- ask him (or her) to advocate for you to have it 100% covered; and secondarily heavily discounted . This is also predicated on if you get routine service with this SM's dealership

also have you purchased multiple cars from this dealer?

mbusa has gone downhill in the past few years, they covered total buybacks of two brand new Mercedes of mine in 2014 but they aren't the same customer advocates anymore based on what I'm reading here on mbworld

consider all this before dumping the car:

Anecdotal report that RMS is totally resolved with new parts (fwiw):

You can always ask for a deal. Many dealerships will be happy to do such work and give a deal.

Well I just got exciting news. MB promised to cover the labor if I cover the parts. I’m shocked since I thought it would be the other way around, if they did anything, and I would have to cover the larger part.

Thanks MB!!

You got lucky. You would think for a 100K car new, this wouldn't be such a huge problem. However, quality isn't what it used to be.

Are they just replacing the RMS or are they going to replace the oil separators too?

OP, I think it has been the RMS failure all along, but they didn't want to tell you about it a couple years ago. I could be wrong, but that sounds more likely than some front seal that nobody has hear of before or since.

You pay for parts because that is their cash out to MBUSA.

They cover labor because (1) fundamentally you have contact with a really nice service mgr, but (2) they don't see much of a cost if they have labor slack. MB mechanics don't do piecework. If your spouse bakes, take a gift. Ask around the dealership to see what the SM and SR might like. Be very grateful.

If you feel yourself tearing up in appreciation, let them see it. Non-psychotic people get pleasure helping other people.

It always helps getting to know the service manager and not the minions on the service desk. I had the service manager persuade mb to cover front ceramics under goodwill (80%) took 6 months back n forth but he managed it. initial response was "mb would not cover" if it wasn't for the service manager taking the time to argue the case I would have had to pay.

RMS seems to be more of an issue in the US, the service manager I deal with says he hasn't seen one in any of the 3 dealerships he covers. (fingers crossed!)
