What's the best OBD2 scanner to use on these cars for diagnostics, code clearing and modifying settings on my almost here 2017 E43 AMG JDM wagon? (only 5 sleeps to go)
Is it a plug in BT module like the "MBito" or a "Launch" unit from amazon, or other?

just trying to get a head start on stuff i"ll need.
Those 3 are the same thing, only get BBA if you have a BenzBmwAudi (I think that is what that stands for, in your case, if you have a Bmw or audi) or planning to get one in the future.
XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4 w/Scope (includes four years software subscription) $35,920.53
not even a small shop will get something like that, they have to be really well established. The alternative will be the Peter's services, in the banner on the top of the forums, way cheaper. He also includes XENTRY as part of the package.
I have an Autel. It works with the latest models when the Launch one didn't, although software updates might have fixed that now. The Autel is pricier but way more advanced.
I had the same question and I went with the harbor freight t8. I wanted the t10 but was hard to justify double the price. It does a bunch of stuff like clear codes, read live data, give vague ideas to troubleshoot with etc... you will need a subscription to get the more in depth repair suggestions, I just used Google. I was also able to code in a few options i don't have on the car.
The big negative is limited support on features and I still have found out how to program certain safety system aka n127/parkman. Says i need a password. I prettu sure if i fussed with it i could find the passcode, just no time. If you have a passcode please post here!
I ended up getting the tools from @BenzNinja
100% worth the money
It scans all Mercedes specific modules, misses nothing, and you can drill down deep.
One awesome part is it shows the status of a whole bunch of other things at the time the code or fault happened.
Very neat and helpful!
Along with manufacturers of modules, firmwares, software versions, part numbers...
Awesome.
Here is a code I pulled today. This is just the first page. It is crazy how much data MB knows at at the time of the event.
And about another two pages of things like vehicle speed, Fuel rail pressures, Mass air, Camshaft positions, pages of it.
Works great on the w213.
Works good on 2025 but requires a subscription to AutoAuth for secure gateway communications AND DoIP (which comes as part of the scanner).
