E53 Shopping

Just sold my W212 E63 2wks ago, mostly due to a aging car and fear of cyclinder scoring(no warranty)

Anyways, other than the 48v system, do the 6 cyclinders have known issues?I have a set of pigtails in my tool box I can use for the sacrifical harness on the cam sensors and magnets. Waste gate rattles I saw as well, ignition coils being hard to come by due to back orders.

Seems like the 48v issue was addressed in the newer models with software changes/updates. Judging by the engine bay, they seem alot less compact than the e63. I am also a mechanic part time so 95% of work is done by me minus software updates/alighments/tires. I am specifically looking at 2022+ models, 60k budget.

Welcome!
Cabriolet or Sedan?
If Sedan why not a 63 <whistling innocently>

Mojo - get a w213 E63 with $60k - and don't look back. But I hear ya, you'll get a newer E53 and that matters too; also the RMS is a real thing if you don't have a warranty on the e63 - $4000-6000 to get it repaired out of pocket, and for $60k you're getting a 2018-2019 e63 and not likely a 2020+ (less prone to RMS issues)

Check out several related "shopping e53" threads in the sticky if you haven't

not sure why you are considering a E 53 coming from a E 63, you will feel the downgrade. To answer your question, though main problem with the M256 seems to be: https://mbworld.org/forums/gls-class...g-harness.html

Mostly due to the affordability of one.

2020 E53 AMG Sedan
i was looking at an E450 for awhile and a similar year E53 was only like 10 grand more so i opted for that. you can get a 2020 E53 CPO for low 40's while a similar year E63 will be at least 20 grand more. it's quick but it's not crazy fast, not sure how you'll feel about the downgrade on power. you can definitely find a 2021+ E53 in the 50's. i think you'll find the interior upgrades to be a new world, the W212 is a great car but very dated. the 53 is a great compromise and one of their best cars IMO. plenty of power, very nice fit/finish, and if well equipped it's got everything you would want. i am not a mechanic but do a lot of my own maintenance and that will definitely help keep it affordable to operate. as i understand it, the 53's are all made in germany and don't tend to have as widespread of issues with the 48V system as the alabama made counterparts E350/450

This (might?) help, but it is comparing the newest E 53 with the PHEV drivetrain:

Fair enough and I guess the power of the E 53 is adequate for you needs?

I also considered an E53 before finding and buying your E63. Perfectly happy with my decision! Don't know how you got rid of this car... it's a beast! Maybe the W212 is getting dated, but at least it still has proper switches and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything (except maybe not having a heated steering wheel in Minnesota) Best of luck car shopping!

I ended up going totally diffrent route. Ended up with a tuner friendly car that I can tinker with, and has a 3rd pedal. Feels alot more engaging driving the car. I love the raw feeling, the amg for me was to smooth and I get that is its purpose, but I never really felt to connected to it. At the same time I was looking to free up some debt, and by selling it was the right move for me, I am extremely happy you love the car.
