E53 service history help!
Is anyone here able to pull service history on a car I’m looking at purchasing? MB Dealer is saying they cannot which makes me wonder?

carfax listed my 212 engine replacement as a transmission remove inspect reinstall with zero mention in the cars history “engine replaced”.

If the issue is personal info can they show you redacted records until you own the car?

i have never had an issue calling a random dealer and just asking them about service history on a VIN #

just try that. call some random dealer in Kansas or something and ask them a few questions

I was told it had the Hermes Module installed as it was missing from the factory until later retrofit, but no records of it being done thru Carfax. They also say it had some recalls performed and again Carfax shows nothing.

I don’t think you can rely on Carfax for service history unless they only took it to one dealer that always posts it. even then it’s not like you get much detail

Just go call some dealers and ask about the VIN

Better yet, a smart move is to pay for pre-purchase inspection at an independent shop (certified mechanic).
