Tire Noise?!?

Hey guys here in Houston Texas it just randomly became 50F. I suspect the cold is causing my tires to make a weird rubbery noise while driving. After 20 minutes and the tires heating up the noise was gone. Could it be the cold causing my tires to make this noise I have a video attached of with the noise and without. What do you think it is? Also i have never changed the tires and they have good tread but may be old from factory. Also the psi is correct.

Certainly could be - do you have summer tires?

The typical wheel hop noise is with extremes of steering angle when you're turning in tight, turns when the soft summer tire compound hardens up in the cold

Do you have any pics of the tread to see how it's wearing?

First reaction is that no, 50F wouldn't cause a noise like that driving straight. Need more information. What make and model are the tires? How old are they? Last 4 digits of the DOT number on the sidewall indicates the week and year they were manufactured. Six years is about what you can expect from a performance oriented tire at most. What model is this? E43 judging from your username? Have you inspected the inner edges of the front tires. They could be worn down to the belts. The E43 doesn't have as aggressive of front camber as the E63, but the inner edges are prone to wear down on pretty much all AMGs.

Hey I do not have a picture of the tread but it’s not low at all, and the tire is an all season tire. I have never changed it and i don’t think the previous owner did since he sold the car at 16k miles. the car is also a 2018 but the tread looks alright.

Hi, the tire are continental pro contact. I do not have the car with me so I cannot check the information on the side wall. I have inspected the inner tire and they have good tread not bald or anything like that. I will update with information monday, but the tire i’m pretty sure is from 2018. Also more than likely this is a tire issue than something mechanical correct?

EDIT: 40th week of 2017😬

TBH, the recording sounds more like a mechanical noise to me, however, given the age of those tires, they are overdue. If the tires were never changed, I'm guessing the alignment was also never checked in all those years, so first step is new tires and an alignment. It's absolutely possible that the noise is caused by the old tires in combination with an out of whack alignment. Regardless of where the noise is coming from, you need new tires and an alignment, then take it from there if that didn't get rid of the noise. While you are at it, have your suspension inspected for leaks and such.

If it were mechanical it wouldn’t go away after “heating up” right? The noise goes away after the car is driven.

Not necessarily. Most materials expand when heated, so it could be something that makes contact in the cold contracted state and as it expands with heat, it clears whatever makes contact.

I will start with changing the tires, and see if the issue persists. If it persists I will take a look into the suspension/ mechanical parts
