Hi all, I’m in a predicament right now. I’ve absolutely loved e63s wagons for so long. Found a 2019 with 14k miles with one owner at a Mercedes dealer. Right now I have a 2025 BMW M3 competition Xdrive with with every single option. This is my second g80. Not sure why I’ve had two now but definitely might have made a mistake with two. I’m bored and looking to get something else. I miss the sound of a v8 and that premium cabin feel. I’m not saying I hate my M3 but wouldn’t mind this wagon. Although, I am hearing mixed feelings on selling my g80 for the wagon. This is my daily by the way.
Would love to hear your guys thoughts. I understand this is a Benz forum. But either convince to get it or tell me the negatives. I have heard a lot about the RMS leak which does concern me. I’d have to buy the fidelity insurance.Anything else I should be worried about? Would love to hear your guys thoughts and if you would pull the trigger. The E63s in question My m3

if the M3 wagon was sold here I would have considered it along side the E63. So from that point of view I can see going from the G80 into the E63 to get the wagon and the V8. Of course the thing to keep in mind is it's a slightly older platform, that can be both a pro and con for different reasons. I really like the E63 cabin and all the user interfaces (no touch screen!) but I am also more familiar with them coming from other MB cars, this will be subjective for you . As far as drivetrain goes, certainly some items you need to look out for like RMS, I have not encountered the issue on my car since I purchased back in spring but it's something I've mentally prepared for that could happen in the future with the third party warranty, but also keep in mind that its a 5+ year old used car and I can't expect flawless operation. For me it has not taken away from my enjoyment of the car this year and hopefully more to come.
Have you test driven the wagon yet ? It is a least 1000 lbs heavier than the M3 and you may notice the handling aspect may be less nimble.
Other than the RMS, there could be other issues to keep in mind, such as excessive inner tire wears due to factory cambers setup, air suspension faults.
I have a 2023 M3 comp xdrive as a daily driver and love the car. It’s fun to drive around town, but the E63s is always my favorite. Maybe bc its heavily modified and a riot to drive.
if both were stock however I’m not sure i’d prefer driving the E63s everyday over the M3.

Well, as a long time BMW owner as well as a two time AMG wagon owner I can say that while I've had some great BMW's my '18 AMG wagon is a favorite. Nothing beats that V8 exhaust note and the luxurious ride. Even though it's a few years old I still prefer it to newer cars, BMW's or Mercedes.
When my '14 e63s wagon got up there in mileage (80k) and I wanted something newer I drove just about everything in the price range comparing to my then just test driven '18, including M3's and M5's. I have zero regrets getting straight back into a second AMG wagon. Nothing came close. At the time I joked with the salespeople that I was like the .05% of people that felt the M5 lacked in comparison to my car. AMG ruins you for anything else.
Both my AMG's have had no modifications, and get frequent dealer service and aside from brakes and a battery I've had zero issues. And I drive them...HARD.
I budget for plenty of tires, and have a good third party warranty if I ever have a serious mechanical issue but honestly, they've been so trouble free when the warranty runs out I'll still keep the car and deal with whatever comes. To date, and I've had this '18 for two years now, I've made zero warranty claims. I'm just one data point, but covering two separate AMG e63s wagons driven plenty of miles and enthusiastically driven, I've had no problems.
Good luck, it's a high class problem to choose between an M3 and an e63s! No bad decision there!
I basically own both cars now (18 e63 wagon and 25 M3 manual). From a straight line driving perspective, cars are both fast but deliver in a very different way. E63 is lots of visceral v8 noise and torquey drama, where M3 just goes, and you have little idea how crazy fast you're moving until you look at speedo. You do feel the weight in the wagon quite a bit more on twisties. For me, the AWD is great to have vs the M3, but not an issue for your M3X.
As others have mentioned, maintenenace/repairs will be much more with the older car. I've found having a good independent MB shop nearby that charges less than half dealership rates a big factor in keeping the 105k mile wagon going strong without killing my wallet. Even with the low mileage example, you'll be at the shop for age wear items and maintenance. See the posted sticky!
Practical day to day stuff - getting in/out of the wagon to run errands is easier. Obs wagon cargo is better, but the M3 has a really big boot suitable for costco runs. Also, I like the old MMI system in the AMG better amd prefer its audio sound (M3 is worse than my 2016 Golf R!). Kind of related to repair costs, I do worry less when driving the M3 because it's new and under warranty, where every weird noise in the wagon has me on alert to another repair issue.
Tough call here, hard to go wrong all things considered. If you made me choose, I'd set aside the extra money from selling the M3 for any repairs on the wagon and go for it! That car just feels more special.
Had a 2019 E63s Wagon for 3+ years - Miss it and the sound. There is nothing like that deep V8 sound of an E63 (IMHO). Hope your spec has the sport exhaust option. Good luck!
ryanfromSD For sure you'll never taken the wagon to the track (unless you hate your tires), where the M3 is more than serviceable for track flings to at least air out the cobwebs and improve your driving skills.

You know, I do HATE my freaking tires......just sayin.
