What to do about brake dust?

I just installed some new wheels , and there will be a large amount of brake dust on the wheels every time I drive for a good amount of time. What kind of brake pads will solve this issue?

That's one of the reasons I chose the CCB option. No dust. Thankful every time I wash the car.

I do have ceramic pads on one of my other vehicles and they do help but I wouldn't say the problem is completely eliminated. Might just be the brand I'm using.

Q: What to do about brake dust? A: You dust it off. (just kidding).

I recommend ceramic coating the wheels, makes cleaning it way easier.

My wheels have polished aluminum barrels so any dust is very visible. They're ceramic costed and I avoid wheel cleaners like the plague. Not only will most wheel cleaning chemicals remove the dust, they also remove ceramic coatings as well as the paint. Powerstop ceramics with ceramic coating on the wheels (outside and inside) and regular car wash will give you wheels that stay clean and looking like new.

^^ This
Most wheel cleaners have acid and other nasty stuff in them.
Ceramic coating helps a lot in being able to just regular wash wheels

Now on my teens A220 and A250 when they come home for winter/summer wheel changes their silver wheels are black. We'll hit those with wheel cleaner at a coin-op before swapping or the whole house would be covered in brake dust.

Hmm, good to see the votes for Powerstop Z23. Had them on another couple of cars in past. Just ordered mine for the E63 and will go on in a couple of weeks. Will report back but expecting good things here.

The powerstop pads are $110 for front and rear.

"improved performance over stock with with zero dust".

I tried searching for the friction ratings of the Powerstop Z23 pads and not seeing it. For anyone that has them are they stamped on them somewhere?

From the Powerstop website it reads like they claim the performance upgrade is "to reduce brake dust & eliminate noise". They mention increased braking power but dont say compared to what, other ceramic brake pads?

I did come across some specifications from one website where they say "stopping power 3/5". That isnt too impressive if true.

I looked up the 0004209100 MB brake pads that I believe are for the E63S and looks like they are rated GG.

With semi metallic GG pads I would expect to see alot of brake dust produced. Wondering if the Powerstop pads are lower friction which is one part of why they can claim less dust?

I am considering installing PowerStop Z23 pads on my 2021 E63 Wagon. I spoke with a local indy shop, and they advised against it. He does not have direct experience with PowerStop, but he's caught up on the significant price difference, and he is also concerned that the Z23 pads might cause premature wear on the stock rotors.

Has anyone had premature wear on the factory rotors?

Thanks,
Dan

I have 51K on my factory rotors on my very heavy S63 with Powerstop front and back. Put them on at around 18K miles as I was fed up with all the dust and damage that it does to all of the finishes including the satin paint on my rims. So at around 33K of use I think they are down to about 30% of the pads left the last time I looked. I will do new rotors on my next brake job only because they do have a lip on them at this point but I am not sure it would be much better with the OEM pads. I have yet to see a set of MB steel rotors go for over around 70K regardless of pads. I will be using the Powerstop pads again when I do my brakes as well. Zero dust and they work great.
