Removing catalytic converter
I removed the four catalytic converter made a straight pipes. The power is amazing but I have faced a problem check engine. I took it to specialties and removed the error for the catalytic converter. It was fine for 1 hour the then check engine came back again, I disconnected the battery put it back on but still it comes back with in a hour check engine.

Yes, and your question is? Of course if you remove the 4 critical emissions systems your check engine light will come on. Surprised it takes an hour. There are 2 or 4 O2 sensors that are supposed to measure how well the catalytic converters are working (they measure the O2 level before and after the cats). If the cats are gone, the level doesnt change so the computer thinks the cats aren't working (which they aren't since they are gondi) and turns on the CE light to let you know that somebody done stole your cats! Are you in a state that is going to ticket you if the police notice they are gone? Many states do nowdays.
Not making light of your situation, but surely you thought of that right?

Removing the first cats closest to the engie will cause the CEL to come on. I'm not sure what is done to the computer to turn the light off but some people use a resistor pack to fool the ECU into thinking they are working properly. Question is whether or not the ECU can still maintain optimum A/F ratios and maximum power outmput without a functioning O2 sensor.
How much HP do yo think you gained?

Chances are you will LOSE power.. Cats are a good thing for supercharged cars, as they need some back pressure. If the car was turbo charged then you would see a gain, especially if you run 3 inch or larger pipes.
the one thing you did gain is a real problem

I'm thinking the same thing. The functionality of the cats is measure by the O2 sensors both pre and post converter. This information is used by the ECU to optimally control the AF ratio for emmisions purposes. This ratio is very close to optimum for performance as well. That is unless you are planning some heavy modifications to the the engine.
The best thing to do would be put the O2 sensors back, replace the primaries with high flow cats and remove the secondaries and resonator.

Why do some people get amazing power increases? When I removed my cats I experienced significant power loss, especially in the mid-range and am now looking for an aftermarket replacement.

Hello, sorry for reflote this old post, i've a Mercedes CLS 500 m113 306hp, and i'm thinking about buying a short tubes headers, but it means to remove first catalyst, but not the second. I'd like to know if someone has made it, and if there is any problem with the polution tests or with the sensors that has the car before and after the cats. Many thanks!

About the first sensor, this headers seems ready to fit it, so i think there won't be any check engine light.

Hello, i have good news about it, i've bought the middle headers, and i've no problem with check engine lights or smog controls, how? Removing first cats because it's necessary to install the headers, but replacing the secondary cats for the firsts ones, so the lambda sensors are still working. No problem with any check engine light, and the smog control is perfect too without the secondary cats (0,04 contamination).
The sound is little louder, but really seems like stock one, just sounds "bigger" when you make full gas, then sounds really fine, not scandalous but really big engine.
About performance, mine is a m113 5.0 306hp, with the middle headers, and without two cats, the car loose in low range but in high range breathes too much better (with stock headers the car feels like can't breath). With an ecu tune gains in low range, not as stock engine but near as it, and in the high range is really greate.

Resonators? DAMPENERS
I took the sound DAMPERS off my v8 5.0 m113 engine and the difference is what you would call NIGHT and DAY
you will have a bad *** v8 engine- sound instead of a quite grabbing groceries and then kids from soccer practice- sound
you can amplify this by your selection of exuast tips....in or her words this guy who is soo arrogant, telling you what u should and should be doing doenst really know ****.
don't take my word for it....ppl made videos on the before and after brah
