It is up to you and my be dependent on where you live. My E55 came standard with 18" and I upgraded to some aftermarket 18" also. I would never put anything bigger on it because the streets are too bad where I live and there would be no performance gain with 19" rims. Everytime I hit a pothole I whince and wonder how much damage it would be with smaller tire sidewalls with some 19's.

depends on the weather
not only do the buy 18's and 19's ... some even go with 20's and the coilover offers a little more flexibility because you can chagne the ride height

I've been debating the same thing for my w209 CLK and decided to go with 18s. My concern is that the ride will be far too rough on 19s. The required tires to go with anything bigger look to thin for my taste.

I agree. I plan to do only plus-1 upgrade to my 2004 CLK320. On other words, I am upgrading from 16-inch to 17-inch.

My main considerations are ride comfort and how long they would last in poor road conditions (Montreal).

I went from 18 to 19s and the ride is a little harsh. Every pothole makes me cringe. Although I love the look, I may change back to 18s later on.

Aftermarket Rims VS Expensive MB Rims? Worth It?

I am replacing my 18" AMG Monoblock rims and tires but don't want to spend a lot of $$$.

I have seen many advertisements on-line for aftermarket rims but I do not know anything about rims and tires. Is a rim a rim? Do you believe there is a difference between actual Mercedes Benz rims for $3000 or aftermarket for $700?

I have a 96 S420

What do you mean when you say "actual Mercedes Benz rims"? Actual MB rims are the ones that come on your car or from a Mercedes Dealership that come on cars from the factory. Any rim not from the Mercedes factory is an aftermarket rim. So, do you want regular standard factory rims or aftermarket rim?

I was told that the Mercedes wheels are made by Ronal.

I am one who insists on brand name wheels. We should make sure that the wheels can survive the ever deteriorating road conditions. All the wheels look great in the showroom but unless you’re a metallurgist, you do not know the quality of the wheels. You pretty much have to trust the manufacturer of their products.

Before purchasing, you should consider that these wheels take a lot of abuses in daily use, pot-holes, brake-dust, rain/snow, etc. The wheels have to be strong and be resistant to corrosive materials.

Does anybody have pictures of an E320 with 18 or 19 inch wheels that have not been lowered.
