Jesus Christ! Brake pad changes!

We took our ML320 to our MB dealer because the brake pads were beginning to wear and those *******s charged us $1,060 dollars for the service!! What the hell?! I didn't even have that type of money on me at the time. They wouldn't let me take my car and instead they shuttled me back home. Are these folks ripping me off? Why would something like that cost $1,060?! I expected the brake pad change would cost a few hundred but not a thousand. Jeez, that's insano.
i was saving that money to buy new S03's for my CLK.

Brake pad cost

Hi

I think they really charged you too much for such simple services. When we get MBZ parts at wholesale, these brake pads should cost around $60/pair for genuine MBZ parts or $45/pair for non-OEM parts. And these MBZ OEM brake rotors also are not very expensive at all. Please don't quote me on these but they can't be much more than that.

For your info, as a general statement, MBZ parts usually cost way less than Lexus, BMW, Acura, even certain Toyota parts. So do those things yourself and save mucho $$$$. (Assuming you could get parts at wholesale.

As for me, I find it odd that owning a 97 E420 costs less than my 95 Nissan 300ZX. Take care.

Chris

Say what? What did they do? Even all four rotors and pads replaced and brake fluid changed shouldn't be that much, even from MB. Did the pad wear light come on? How many miles on your ML320? What parts did they replace?

....Without additional details, at first blush I'd say you were screwed. You bill total doesn't make sense. Our E320 was in recently for pads and the total was less than $300. Perhaps four rotors and a three martini lunch for the shop is included in a brake service. Details! Give us more details!!

On a CLK320/430, it costs about $900 to replace 4 rotors and pads (with labor). Add a brake flush, and you've easily got $1,000. If did all this, then you weren't ripped off. If they simply changed a couple pads, you should change your dealer. Also, they are required to give you an estimate before they work on your car. Was it close to the total?

I had my pads changed and front disks were required on E55. Cost $3560 AUD. (approx $1700 US ). If I hadn't been so busy at the time would've upgraded to Brembo. As a comparison, Bentley Turbo R pads only used to cost around $1800 AUD and about $5K for disks as well. (I used to drive it pretty hard!)

ok, Details

Brake Pad light came on.
56,000 miles on the car.

Dealer changed:

all 4 brake pads and rotors.
-they said something about the brake pads and rotors being worn down to a dangerous level? I'm not sure what that really so fearing that the car was going to be dangerous to drive, i just had do whatever they needed to do.

The brake pad light came on and we continually drove it for a month or so. But anyways, those are details.

Estimate?

lol, we don't get an estimate. I always worry about how much money i have to bring to the dealer and make sure i have significant amount in the checking account because my dealer has surprised me more then once about repair cost. I think i will ask them for one the next time i go. Thanks for the heads up.

one time i thought maintenance was free because i bought the extended warranty and then when they handed the car back to me the guy says..."That'll be $550 dollars". I'm like..."Erhuhhh?!"

Wow thats pretty expensive!!

I recently had the "Brake Fluid Low - Visit Workshop!" indicator come on on my CLK. They said that my fluid was low and that all four brake pads were worn down, however they only charged me $400 with labor.
