Need tire suggestions for CLK, do some auto-x but want some practicality too

I have a CLK 320 with Konis, H&R springs, 17"AMG wheels, and currently Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. The tires are dead, and by dead i mean i can fishtail easily at low speeds (did so last night). I do a bit of auto-x racing, but also need to get around town and to and from school (3 hour interstate drive) occasionally. The car spends a lot of time parked though. I'm looking for something that is going to give me great wet and dry traction, and wont be utterly useless in the snow (im not going to be driving in the snow mind you, this is just in case i'm caught somewhere in a snow shower).

Here are the candidates so far

Hankook Ventus R-S2
http://edgeracing.com/tire/1527/
http://www.hankooktireusa.com/produc..._ID=63&CatID=5

Falken Azenis Rt615
http://edgeracing.com/tire/1534/
http://www.falkentire.com/615micro.htm

From what i can gather, these tires will stick to the road like glue. I have a fairly spirited, but not ridiculous driving style, and would like something with some grip. I calm way down in inclement weather though.

The sizes im thinking about are
225/45/17 Front
245/40/17 Rear

I have the Konis set on medium all around, but will be softening the front to tame understeer and putting smaller pads on the front to drop it a bit lower (as of now the rear tucks and the front has about a 1.5 finger gap).

Im looking forward to your votes, or recommendations, especially given that tire rack doesnt carry either of these. Thanks for the help.

You'll probably get a lot of dissenters here for both of those tires... as their not typical "mercedes tires" but results don't lie and those are the fastest street tires around aside from DOT R-comp tires. If you want a tad more life, go with the 'kooks, but the grippier tire is arguably the Azenis. That said, its probably more of a personal choice as to which one is "better".

yes you can go up to a 255 rear but there would be no real benefit

I don't think I would agree with the recommendation of PS/2's given your requirements. They are awesome tires, I own them myself for summer, but their performance in snow is non-existent. I was late changing to winter tires this season, after 1 inch of snow fell, and was almost stuck in my driveway. 5 pounds of kitty litter later, I made a beeline to the store to get the winter tires on.

oops ... I didn't notice the snow comment .....

all of the tires mentioned are useless in the snow .... the P-Zero Nero M&S or Pilot Sport A/S would be the only two choices I would get behind when considering snow and performance
