Eibach and H&R lowering springs sets

Okay, looking for some help here on lowering my ’01 E320 / W210 chassis. I have perused different websites looking for information on Eibach and H&R lowering springs sets. I would like to lower my vehicle by approximately 1.5” to close the gap between the tire and fender. (18” AMG wheels with Bridgestone Pontenza RE750 235/40x18 and RE750 265/35x18 tires.) I’m not looking to necessarily improve the handling; I would like to maintain the overall ride-quality as much as possible.

Any specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated, including information on modifications that you may have done.

Thank you!

I love my Eibachs.
Car is lowered 30 mm = 1.25 inches.
The ride is slightly firmer than before.
With that kind of drop, you don't have to worry about getting different ( shorter ) shocks.
Did you know that " Sport Packages " from M-B & AMG normally drop the car 1 - 1.25 inches.
Bet there is a reason for that.

menanie;

Is this what you put on your vehicle? I'm assuming that you kept the original OEM shocks...

Did you do anything else, like change out the pads? Thanks!

Yes,I used Eibach Pro-Kit springs.
Then I installed Bilstein Sport Shocks ( figured my original shocks were getting a little tired ).

you mentioned not needing shorter shocks if the resulting spring drop is
1-1.25. but is not the Bilstein Sport actually shorter than stock (or the
Bilstein HD)?

Yes, the Sport shock is shorter.
Up to about 30 mm drop you can keep the standard shocks, or go with shorter ones.
Your choice.
Anything more than a 30 mm drop, you have to go with shorter shocks.

Meanie,

How do you like the ride comfort with the Bilstein shocks? Are they much different than the OEM?

I really like the OEM shocks for comfort. I am concerned that the Bilstein Sport shocks will not deliver the same ride quality. Your thoughts?

I am running Brabus springs & OEM shocks. The ride is nice, but I am thinking about changing the shocks.

Bilstein HD's & Sport shocks are valved the same, with the Sport's being shorter, to be used with lowering springs ( anything from a 30 mm drop and lower ).
While they both are firmer than OEM shock, I just love the ride & handling they provide.
P.S. I do NOT like a stiff ride, but don't care much for the " Buick-bounce " either.

I just bought some Bilstein HDs but I want to lower my W210 with the Eiback Pro-kit springs. How do you think that would work out since the Bilstein is not the Sport version?

I don´t know how is in USA, but in Europe there are two kinds of Bilstein shocks.
- Sport: they aren´t shorter than stock ones, they are only harder and you can use the stock springs with them.

- Sprint: they are shorter so they need shorter springs (-30mm).

Do you think I could use eibach springs with AMG shocks or would be better AMG springs?

Bilstein HD shocks are very comfortable when combined with stock sport springs. I would say like a stock sport suspension. I'd perfer more rebound dampening, but I'm used to performance oriented aftermarket suspensions...this is coming from W203.

From what I've heard, the shock bodies are the same length in the sport versions, but the internal piston position may be different. The valving difference is dependent on the specific application. The valving may be the same in some cases.

Don't use stock shocks with lowering springs no matter the amount of lowering if you can afford to change them. Your shocks will wear out fast, due to the unoptimized stroke and higher spring rates.
