Lightbulb Brake dust solution

I found this on another forum (BMW ) I'm going to give it a try and will let you know how it works out.

"I don't normally watch nascar stuff but while flipping channels I did see a good tip.. Spray the inside and out of the wheel with Pam after cleaning.. It's no stick and made to take the heat. Apparently that is what the pit crews do to avoid a facefull of brake dust while they're changing 4 tires in 10 seconds.. I'm not sure how it'd work long term but I don't think it would do any harm..."

I don't think this is a good idea...this stuff is an oil which will attract brake dust like crazy.

isn't the accidental tire dressing on the rim combined with dust from the brakes sometime create that black gunk on the rims if don't clean it? won't this be the same case with pam + brake dust?

It may be that the NASCAR guys don't care if the dust sticks to the wheels, they just don't want it blowing up in their faces when they change the tires.

I would also be concerned with the paint and finish of my wheels. I would not want a layer of oil sitting on my wheel.

Well I don' t know about wheels... but Pam is great for the underside of a lawnmower deck. It is natural (you eat it) so it won't kill the grass, and keeps grass from sticking!

Sorry - couldn't resist.

i read somewhere that a guy coated his rims with pledge! the wood polish. he says that the dust stays off for days! i recently installed some potterfields on the front, and after about 100 miles. so far so good! the dust accumulation has been reduced about 75%! no joke.

dust on wheels

The safest bet of all is to buy better brake pads...cheap brake pads tend to create more dust. Then just wash your car once a week!

Okay...I will admit that I do watch some NASCAR races...following the Damlier-Chrysler Dodge Teams....I guess I have to stick with brand loyalty (use "brand" loosely)....but if you watch the tire guys changes tires, the brake dust does still fly out from the wheels...so if they do use PAM on the rear of the wheels...it is not working as well as they think or not at all.

Hm... Let's see... All European luxury brands use dusty pads... Porsche, MB, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, Volvo, Saab... Of course, they are all cheap... The idea of getting "better" brake pads have never crossed minds of their engineers.
