car shakes with 18 amg wheels
Can someone please help me! I recently installed 18 AMG rims with 235 45 18 tires and my car shakes badly between 35-50 mph. I have had the wheels balanced twice and it solves the problem for a couple days. Nobody (even the Mercedes dealer) knows what to do. If anybody can give me info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

looking at the title of the post, i was going to say, have them balanced.
But since you already tried that. Here are some things to check:
1. Tighten all nuts/bolts
2. Check for bent rims
3. Check for under/over inflation of tires
4. Inspect Rotors for deformaty (a warped rotor can cause serious vibration)
If that doesn't work... slap the OE rims back on for a few days and see if the problem persists. If so, then there is something wrong with the rims.
Or, could it be rubbing against your fender/fenderwell?

Assuming the wheels are hubcentric and you are not using spacers...Take the car to a good tire shop that has the Hunter road force balance machine (many Discount Tire locations do). Spin balancing just doesn't work well for all types of wheels/tires.

Someone else had a problem like this but with SSR GT3 wheels. I think he took the wheels off and found a small tab that was part of the mold on the rotor center. It was only on one rotor. He matched it up with the wheel and saw wrere it had made an indent in the backside of the rim. Once he saw this all he had to do was grind that little piece of casting off the rotor center and all was fine. I hope this helps. I know this guy had tried everything and this finally fixed his problem.

2000 CLK430 w/ 19"AMG rims
I had this
I had this problem when I put 19 amgs on my clk. I recommend getting them road force balanced. Also you should look into the offset of the rims. Sometimes even amg offsets are different for different cars. I had to install hubcentric spacers and have them custom milled into my rims. that and having them road force balanced makes all the difference. Now my ride is smooth as butter. Just gotta watch out for them damn potholes..they'll throw the balancing off easily since your riding on lower profile tires now.

I HAD THE SMAE PROBLEM FOR A MONTH AND JUST RECENTLY FIXED IT TODAY. WHAT U NEED IS RINGS OR MAYBE SPACERS. I GOT ALL 4 RINGS FOR $60 AND THE VIBRATION IS COMPLETELY GONE.

...........I don't mean to add to the confusion, I had the same problem. what caused mine was uneven tire wear in both front tires. Inside portion of both front tires were worn. A problem I was told is common on CLK's. Camber adjustment, alignment and new tires solved the problem. I see you have done all these things except camber adjustment. Consider doing that. Also, what do you have? I ask because 235/40/18's would not fit the front of my CLK.

Are camber adjustments cover under warranty? I have bad inner tire wear on the rear tires on my E55, i have an appointment for the 26th of this month and I want them to correct this problem before I replace those tires. they are also going to do maintenance in the car.

Pocholin.. Someone correct me if I am wrong ,but you should put the new tires on, then do your alignment! Your alignment will be more correct with the new tires.
