Exclamation Just got some brakes...

I just signed on here, and love the site! I wanted to let people know that I feel awesome because of a deal I just got at Stillen for my Audi. I bought a set of 4-piston caliper, 13" rotor cross drilled and slotted from AP Racing for just over $2k with everything included. From what I can figure, its a great deal, and I'm really happy. I tell all Merc-o-philes this because Stillen is selling the CLK kit of the same nature for just over $2k as well. It's worth checking out, trust me.[COLOR=crimson]

Thanks for the warm welcome! Nope, haven't put them on just yet, the man who's going to do the work will do it next week. Stillen could do it, but the man I have works from home. He's an ex-Audi mech and still has all the tools and so on. So, I take the Audi to him. I'll let ya all know!!

Yes, Costa Mesa is the place...the trick is to find alternate routes to the 405. I use PCH from Long Beach to the 55 to Baker Street. It takes about 40 minutes. I was born and raised in Glendale, about 10 minutes from Pasadena, and yea from up there it takes a good amount of time to get to Costa Mesa. Almost no way to avoid it. But, it's So Cal....tons of traffic, always has been, always will be!! I would love to move up to Nor Cal, like Santa Cruz, Monterey, or maybe even further up, but don't quite know how I'd make a living. Anyhoo....

I've been to Stillen in costa mesa. Their service sucks!! When i bought my Tokico shocks(for my daily driver) and have them installed it took them about 2 hrs before they even started working on the car! I was so pissed thought they are already working on the car and when i check like 2 hrs later to see how the work is and the car was still sitting on the corner and nobody has worked on it yet! So anyways i said that that's the last time i'll ever get my car worked on there. This was a about 2yrs ago. But their service really sucks and don't recommend it!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that happened to you , glad to see you wrote more than a line .

I have stillen's rotors on my Suburban, been very satisfied, I guess I'm lucky I didn't need to use their service dept.

Wow...Im beyond shocked at that!! When I was there, they had a huge service area, and a good number of mechs working on cars in there. This now scares me, because a friend of mineis having his Z upgraded with Stillen turbo equipment. I'll let ya know how it goes!!

mixed feelings about stillen's machine shop...i mean, they're a great company and all, backed by stillen himself. but i went down to la to get this nagging brake vibration from their brembo lotus kit...they said hubs not right...so i got new hubs, same result. went down, dropped off car...they said they machined away the lip at the edge of the hub..ok now...i tried, it's better, but the thing still vibrates/shudders at 40 mph and only at 40 mph. they said it was just the holes making themselves felt...right. then when the mclaren clips fell (a yr or 2 later), the two piece rotor was rattling, but the shudder had reduced a bit....hmm. put in new clips and brake pads (were worn close to minimum, and at 200 a set), doesn't seem quite as bad. oh well...didn't quite make my 400 mile trip seem like i got the most out of it...

Unhappy

Wow...that sounds really scary. The APs are doing just fine, in fact, after a major surgery like that I'm always a bit frightened. But the car is doing just great. My friend with the Z I mentioned has Brembos on his car, and he had a similar complaint about a vibration felt in the steering wheel. It's still there, after 3 years, and nothing has gone wrong, so who knows what the deal is. From my experience with Stillen though, I'm really happy with them. They sold me a really nice set of brakes, and even checked them out for me no charge, just to double check the work my mech did on the car. So, like I say...even if your considering a brake upgrade, check out AP and Stillen. I wonder if they build a kit for an old 280??? hahah...
