rims affect ride?
we might get 18's or 19's on our e500, but will these rims affect the smooth ride, and will you hear more tire noise? thanks

your ride will get a little more harsh but I didn't consider it a big change when I went to 18's. The looks with better rims outweigh any increase in ride harshness. As for tire noise, not sure if it really got any louder. If it did, I can't tell. I think it just depends on the tire you choose. I hear Pirelli's are noisy and Yokohama AVSdb tires are the quietest.

ride will be harsher, but u'r on a mercedes ... they're known for solid chassis...means u won't be feeling as much as u would had u put it on a say..civic or corolla

i c, yea we drove a s430 with amg 18's on them, and it was harsher..

I'd go with 17", 18" would the the biggest. Look for a tire that is not of very low profile.

The OEM tire for the 2003 E500 is 245/45/17. Doing a plus-1 or plus-2 upgrade would require tire sizes:

245/40/18
245/35/19

Same size all around. I also doubt his parents would go for a staggered setup with a wider rear tire and not being able to rotate tires from front to back .

Then not bigger than 18" and 245/40 all around.
It is almost better to just stay with the same set up as OEM but nicer wheels in his case
