I just checked these tires at the tirerack and they look pretty good, reviews are good for the most and they also seem to be a good gang for the buck.
My car needs tires (specially on the rear, I wonder why?)and I'm debating which tire to put, I can't spend too much money on tires right now, I have an appointment for service at MB and I know that is not going to be a cheap ticket either.

My options are Yoko AVS ES100 and Kumho MX both of them are W rated.

So the question is, does anybody have any experience with these AVS ES100 tires?

Never had any experience with those tires but why not the SO-3's?? Just curious is it the price??

I was looking at the same think last night. The Yoko AVS ES100 were priced about the same as the Kumho's. For comparison - I think the S-03 in 225/45-17 were about $155 and the Yokohama ES100 were about $105. I was also looking at the Toyo Proxy T1S.

well, i'd consider the toyo proxes, bridgeston SO3, kumhos, and the yokohamas...

the michelin sport pilots are very good but i'd like to just try out the other tires to finesse it. i love how the toyo and yokohamas look though. the only problem w/ th toyos are that they aren't carried by tirerack.

Well, these Bridgestone Potenzas RE730 I have are very very extremely loud IMO but people and bridgeston website speak of them as very quiet and I'm wondering if I'm too picky and may be the S03s willl be as "quiet" since they are Bridgestones Price comes to second term and I will be very upset if I pay more for these tires and they are loud.

I have other choices that are cheaper than the AVS E100 and I know that Kumho is a good tire by experience

Are Toyo's good? any comments on that?

I just checked Toyo's website and they don't make the T1S on 245/40/18, so I can't go with that brand, I don't want to change tha tire ratios.

I think tire noice is dependent on alot of factors - some are inherantly more quiet than others, but also the road surface has alot to do with it, too. There are some stretches of road that I think I am ready to get rid of my Conti SportContact's and then when the surface changes - they are very quiet. Overall - I am hapy with my Conti's. They are also repaving the main street by my house, so it runs somewhat smoother/quieter now - not as many holes in the road.

As for the Toyo T1S - I read alot of good reviews on them - I am not sure what the cost are when compared to the Kumho's or Yokohama's. Kleemann uses them on their vehicles - so they must be okay. I have tried to get prices of Toyo's online, but cannot seem to find them. But, I really have not looked in depth.

i think your best bet is a local shop. i looked for them a while ago and i don't think i found any place that i'd be comfortable ordering from.

I tried Pilot Sport, S03 and T1S (current) on my E55.

The Pilot Sports is good and the most responsive (stiffer sidewall) but the pricing is just too much. Went to S03, they are OK but not as responsive as the Pilot Sport. S03 gives good ride but I do not like the weight. With less than 500 miles on the S03 I sold them to another E55 owner.

I bought the RennTech wheel for unsprung weight reduction and put on a set of T1S and have been very happy with them. They are responsive, good ride, excellent feedback and bites very good. I saved 10-11lb per corner by going from the stock 18"AMG/S03 to RennTech/T1S combi.

The following are just some data I collected or tire weight. The S03 are the porkiest of them all!!!

You are right, and here in Houston most roads are concrete, which is loud by nature, the Kumhos 712's I used to have on my impala SS were very quiet even on concrete, and on pavement they extremely quiet.

Thanks for the info E55MKB, I've already saved some weight with the Carlsson wheel and I wouldn't mind saving more, those yokohamas are the heaviests of them all. i'll try to find out weigth on the Kumho MX and compare it to Toyo T1S

just checked Kumho's website and tires are not that heavy, the MX model,
245/40/18 = 24.7 lbs
265/35/18 = 25.9 lbs (that is what my car has, I know it should be 275/35/18, I'm still thinking if I should put the US size back in there, and they don't have a weight for this seize yet.)

I'm going to call a local Toyo rep and find prices b4 I make up my mind.

How Pocholin?? The Carlsson wheels as far as I know are all heavier than the stock AMG 18" monobloc (27.9lb fr and 28.6lb rr). Carlsson 18" is probably low 30s on the one piece and higher on the multi-piece.

RennTech 18" forged wheels are 20.8lb fr and 21.2lb rr
OZ Superleggeras are sub 20lbs
SSR Integral are also sub 20lbs

Unfortunately I cannot use the OZ or the Integrals since I have the Brembo 14" rotor and calipers (that's why I go to the RennTech)

really, never weight them on a scale but I and the guys from discount tire agree that the Carlsson wheels 1/5 felt lighter than the Monoblock AMGs, so I was assuming I saved around 3 to 4 lbs per wheel

Are Toyo's good? any comments on that?


.............I currently have Toyo ProxesT1-S tires on my car. 265/35/18 rear and 225/40/18 front. I have a set of 235/40/18's in my garage that did not fit the front because it would rub. So i am pretty sure Toyo makes 245/40/18's, may be it was just not on their website. Contact Kaufman tire..........They sell all brands of Toyo. Toyo proxes T-1S are excellent tires sa far as traction both wet and dry. I had Michelin pilot sport tires on my car before the Toyo's. I belive the Toyo's offer better grip but the michelin's are less noisy and have better ride comfort. Overall I will go with michelin but Toyo proxes are a good buy.

Thanks, i did call a Toyo distribuitor and they do make them, but they are a little on the expensive side 245s were $240 bucks and 265s were $280 bucks each, so I think I'm going to go with the Kumho MX, cheaper and I already know Kumhos to be excellent tires specially for the money you pay for them.
