what to do
Here is what they offered me, I can buy any Rim at thier cost (not a huge mark up) or they will let me buy a set of AMG with new tires for 1000. The AMG are not Chrome (what they call Take Offs).
The OZ were never damaged nor did I ever ask them to buff off the chrome, the bent rimm remains bent (my problem) I went in thinking worst case I would replace one rim ($549) and a tire ($250) if it cannot be fixed, now I either pay to have the rims re chromed or take the AMG's at $1000. I could use your assistance and information.
The rims I like better were the OZ's or the AMG Chromed.
When they said "they would take care of it", did they mean they will fix it for you free of charge or they will fix it for you at a cost??? There are several issues here: firstly, they buffed off the chrome on your wheels, why do you have to sacrifice for a set of "refinished" wheels now? The wheels were perfect in their original finish when you took your car in. What happened if the shop that is going to chrome the wheels did a lousy job and 6 months later your chrome starts peeling off??? Who will be responsible for that??? I would demand a new set of OZ wheels simply because they messed up the whole thing.
If the original deal was you have to pay for the repair, lets say the repair is $150, then you should tell them to get you 4 new wheels LESS the $150. You will only pay for what you've requested them to do.
Take offs dont worth anything. Those are wheels that were taken off new cars and the owner traded for something else. The dealer has already made money through the transaction. So if they sell you the take offs now, there is no cost to them, they are making a 100% profit. You should tell them to chrome the take offs and give them to you (provided you're ready to give up the OZ, give the OZ to them, who cares whether they'll sell it or dump it, its not your business anymore because you have the new chromed AMGs already).
You might think I sound very unreasonable, but try to think it this way: you were only expecting to spend $150 to fix the bent wheels (assuming you're supposed to pay for it), now because of a series mistakes by them, you have to pay $1000 & buy a set of AMG wheels???? Or have to sacrifice for a set of "refinished" wheels?? That doesnt make sense to me. Does it to you???
Your dealer is going to lose money regardless of the outcome. This is the main reason why MB normally dont mess with their clients aftermarket stuff.
Good luck!!
