Brake upgrade

I have a 98 E430 Sport. Is there a brake upgrade available for the E-Class. I'm thinking of something like those monster brakes they put on the BMW M Class? There is a huge difference between the stopping power of the M Class and the regular BMW and I'd like to find that for mine.

There are several tuners which have brake upgrades. Check with Renntech and Kleemann. Also check with Mr. V at Evosport and Luke at Tirerack.

Are they interested in another sponsorship? My car comes out of the shop tomorrow with a complete re-do. It's been in the shop for almost a month.

I had nothing to do with it. From what I've heard, it's hard as hell to get sponsored by them. One of their guys saw my car and said he wanted his breaks on my car. In reality, they're not free anyways, and I won't know what it will cost me until I actually buy them.

Brembo says I have to buy their wheels to use their brakes. However Evosport has Brembo rotors that they say are factory replacements. Will the Brembo rotors help braking power? If so would it be real noticeable?

STKLAW:

Yes, they will dissipate heat better resulting in less fade and firmer pedal feel.

Brembo doesn't make wheels.

Your right! It was Kleemann that I was looking at. Their stuff looks good but I don't want to change wheels. I just want better braking for every day use. Any ideas? Evo doesn't show anything. Tirerack shows somr green brake pads that might help. Anyone ever use these?

I don't think you have to use Kleemann wheels, but you must use 18" or larger wheels because of the larger diameter rotors.

I thought I saw some for 17s but then you had to use Kleeman wheels. I'll try to find the page.

You're right. I red the fine print wrong. Boy they sure don't make it easy to get around their sites. Kleemann and Brambo. Maybe I will just get some high performance type rotors and pads from Tirerack and see if that doesn't help. I'm going to slam into someones rear if I don't. Yes, I'm a hyper-driver--what else?!

High performance rotors and pads won't do much for you. Go for either Brembo's or Kleemann's. I spoke to a representative from Kleemann about a few things, including their brakes. Basically, they are tuned Brembo brakes. They will out perform Brembo brakes, but you should be satisfied with either.

Yes, but problem is they don't make Brembos or Keemanns for my car without going to 18" wheels and I like my 17s.

They do make brembo's for 17" wheels. They stop much better than your stock brakes, and they're cheaper than the 14" kit for 18" wheels. Would you like me to email you with the info?

I'm getting really tired of the brakes on my '00 430, but I don't want to spend the $$ on Brembos. How much is their cheapest kit? I've got 18" wheels....

Wheel requirement

Diameter wise:
Brembo 330mm rotor upgrade should fit 17"wheel.
Brembo 355mm rotor upgrade require 18" or larger wheel.

However, since the Brembo fixed calipers is also wider than most sliding calipers, the wheel backspacing and/or offset is also important. Even if diameter wise it is OK it still might not fit due to the backspacing/offset of the wheels.

So check both factors first. Brembo should be able to send you the brake profile (usually in pdf format) so that you can check whether your wheels will fit after the upgrade.
