Brembo 14" upgrade

I have 00 E55 with the Brembo 14" rotor and the Brembo F50 calipers. I believe Brembo also have the 13.2 inch rotor with the F40 calipers. The 14" rotor defintely requires 18" wheels. In the case of the E55 w/AMG monoblocks, require at least 6-7 mm spacers to clear the calipers. I machined an H&R 12mm down to 7mm (still hub centric).

Note: can't use 17" spare for the front axle.

Compared to the stock E55 330mm (13.2") rotor (2 pistons sliding steel calipers) the Brembo upgrade shaves 11.7 lb per side. Brake feel/modulation is improved though. Remember the E55 set-up is no slouch. With a street/stock tire, both stock/Brembo set-up will overpower the front tires easily. With the race tire at the track, I believe the Brembo set-up will shines.

You can also use the E55/CLK55 330mm rotors and calipers to upgrade a stock 430 front brake.

I'm putting the 14" on my CLK next month. I think they should fit without a problem under my 19"' BBS LMs. Does the MKb in your E55MKB stand for your initials or the company MKB? I have the MKB 55 Hypertune kit, MKB sway bars and MKB exhaust in my car.

Can someone confirm..

Is it true that when you buy a Brembo Brake upg kit lets say for the E55 that all you have to do is change the 2 fronts with the kit and then on the back just leave it as stock? I mean on the back do you also replace the rotors and the calipers or is that just on the fronts?

thanks!

I believe you just change the rotors on the rear to match the fronts (not in size, just in appearance), as the front brakes do 80% of the braking. If you have money to burn, do them all, but I think the fronts are the ones that matter.

hey sleestack

So you mean that other people who've i seen with the brembo calipers on the back too have money to burn? I'm just trying to find out what all do you get with this kit? I'll call the mfg and ask them.

thanks!

Rear brake upgrade

Jam:

Just like what Sleestack said, since most of the braking is done on the front axle, the rear upgrade is more of a luxury.

On some of the car, the rear does not come with ventilated disc and hence the upgrade to the ventilated disc. Even the Brabus top brake upgradefor the E-class only uses 330mm front with 300mm rear plus the fixed 4 piston calipers.

I believe Brembo does not offer the rear brake upgrade for the e-class. Only the front with 330mm rotors and F40 calipers or 355mm rotors w/F50 calipers. I chose to go with the 355mm rotors since the E55 already come with 330mm rotors (front).

One of the reason of the upgrade is also to lower unsprung weight. As I mentioned on my earlier post, the upgrade sheds 23.4lbs (11.7lbs/side) from the front axle. Mainly from the lighter Brembo aluminium rotor hats (stock is steel) and the aluminium calipers (stock is steel).

Caution: due to the wider profile of the Brembo calipers, some wheels will require spacers to fit.

Rather than spending your money or rear brake upgrade, it is much better spent on high quality lighter (forged) wheels. Another problem here, hardly anything is available for our MB in disc look and light (forged), mostly thin spokes.

Understood what you're saying. I guess i'm just trying to see how these other cars with brembo brakes front and rear do it? I mean most of the braking are done on the front but if i were to go for the looks i would've wanted to have the Brembo rotors and calipers front and rear. Again going for the looks.

Will the CLK/E55 rotors and calipers fit without spacers on the front of a CLK 430 with stock wheels?

Will it fit?

Howard, I do not know the answer to this but if the stock CLK front wheel backspacing is similar/close to the AMG 18" monoblock then it should be no problem (w/o spacer)

On the E55, there is quite some space left between the stock AMG caliper and the spokes of the front AMG 18" monoblock

I believe diameter wise it should be Ok since my E55 come with 17" spare.
