Thumbs up Questions for Luke - Tirerack

Hi Luke,

I have a 2001 Mercedes C240...could you please help me with the following questions before I buy all the parts from Tirerack:

1. Springs: is the car comes with spring pads like the old C-class?
2. For Eibach Pro Kit...do I have to change the shocks as well? Also, will the wheel alignment specs will be different than the stock setting?
3. For street use, do you recommend Eibach or H&R springs? I do not want harsh ride.
4. For AMG wheels...which size do you recommend 17" or 18"?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. Springs: is the car comes with spring pads like the old C-class?

No, your car only has rear spring pads, Dot 1-Dot 4. Dot 1 is 8mm thick, they go by every 5mm increments, Dot 4 is 23mm.

2. For Eibach Pro Kit...do I have to change the shocks as well?

Yes or no. IF a set of stock shocks will last 5 years, getting the springs alone will only shorten the life expectancy by 1 year. Really depends if you want to improve the handling a lot or not. Its okay if you dont get the shocks.

Also, will the wheel alignment specs will be different than the stock setting?

It is recommended to adjust the alignment everytime you change the suspension on your car.

3. For street use, do you recommend Eibach or H&R springs? I do not want harsh ride.

Eibach is more comfortable, but will not lower your car as much. H&R will lower a bit more and have a slightly rougher ride. Again, depends on whether you want a more aggressive look or not.

4. For AMG wheels...which size do you recommend 17" or 18"?

17" will definitely be smoother. 18" will look nicer but a bit rougher, and also depends on your budget.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks [/B]
Luke, do I get an "A+" for these answers?

depends on the weather
Harris
I'll give you an "A" not an "A+" ....here's why ...you miss read 1 question ....

will the wheel alignment specs will be different than the stock setting?
the alignment specs will be the same as OE except for ride height

Also, I would recommend that you change the shocks as well because the progessive nature of performance lowering springs will make the shocks wear faster and since the suspension is already apart change them .... rather than paying a second labor bill to change them in the near future

hehe Harris is on a row again

would new lugs only be needed mostly when you get wider wheels? ex: stock 8.5 you put 9.5 need new lugs? but if stock 8.5 and keep 8.5 but bigger wheels as from 17 to 18 etc would be same lugs?

thnx in advance
