My W211 and H&R Sport Springs...

Just had my W211 lowered with H&R Sport Springs that were installed exactly 1 week ago. I was informed that the car would drop another 1/2 inch or so because the car had to "set".

Anyone know approximately how long it takes to "set"?

The front end seems about 1/2" higher than the rear end and am wondering if I might have to have the front end cut a bit to even out the drop. But of course I want the "set" to be complete before doing this.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend highly that you do not cut the springs as it will turn your ride quality to absolute garbage.

Actually, it looks pretty good in the pic above. You can't go by visuals as your eye can easily be fooled, have to measure.

Ya actually just stuck my blackberry next to the wheel well and the top part of the rim and the front seemed about 1/2" higher...

its an optical illusion my friend. the truth is the front IS lower in ride height compared the the back. reason for this is our wheel well opening up front is more round and open compared the the rear's wheel well opening. main reason is that the front wheels have to turn and be able to accomodate the wheels swiveling in and out of the wheels well without rubbin onto anything.

if you look closely at your sig...the rear wheel well is more of a half circle compared to the front where its a a complte round / opening. thats why the rear wheels seems more tucked in that the fronts because of this illusion.

Thanks

Ya i hear ya bud.

I seen a lot of pics here on the forums of slammed cars and the stance and whatnot. If you look at some of the other lowered cars on the forums, when you check the height between the top of the lip of the rim with the wheel well, some of the cars seem to be perfectly even front and back.

Not really a big deal I guess. Was just thinking that the car might look better with both the front and rear ends looking about the same wheel well / gapwise.

I might end up putting something where the back springs go to raise the back a tad.

Thanks again for the info.

i say cut a half or full coil off from the front H&R lowering springs. it wont throw off your spring ratio at all, until you start choppin off 2 full coils...ive driven my friends C55 with a full coil cut up front, and felt normal to me compared to my H&Rs uncut. im thinkin about cuttin a full coil up front for the C32 this weekend as soon as i get my 19s on.

Cutting coils

I was thinking instead of cutting the coil, to add a spacer/bushing/whatever they might be called between the spring to the rear end.

Heard cutting was not good.

yeah, you can put a thicker spring pad at the rear, which will slightly raise the height at the rear.

and regarding the spring cutting...i was completely against it before but after speaking to actuall motorsport owners and such, it actually doesnt throw off your spring rate or what not, until you start cutting too much, then everything goes down hill from there.

but like i said, when i drove my friends C55 with a full coil cut all the way around, his car felt perfectly fine. it wasnt bouncy or anything.
